Today's my first time browsing /b/ on 4chan for more than 10 seconds and I've come across some weird stuff ("weird" being a flavour of things you'll find only on the internet, like furries).

I don't find furries weird. Does that mean I'm becoming a furry?

I still find touchscreens to be stupid. I believe that's the best way I can demonstrate how close-minded I am.

Oh, mein Gott. After a decade and a half of being on the Internets, I finally succumb to the all-powerful force of unusual fandoms. Although TLK counts as a franchise of fandom too, there's a line between TLK and the really 'exotic' fandoms like bronyism (?? - I dunno what the noun is) and furryism - And today happens to be the day when I cross that line.

Oh, hohoh! CTRL + left/right arrowkeys during typing lets me skip the cursor to the beginning of words! Never realised that in my life.

That, this video is a real eye-opener (Warning: strong language).

^ Bronyism, as you put it, is hardly an exotic fandom. In fact, MLP has a much larger dedicated fanbase than TLK does. On the internet, at least.

^ What I meant by 'exotic' was that it feels a lot harder to understand why people are into it.

MLP is a cartoon catering to young girls. To someone who's not familiar with fandom, he/she probably won't understand why 30-year-old males are into MLP. (But I personally understand the obsession over MLP)

On the other hand, TLK is a piece of our childhoods. It's very easy to understand that someone may be into TLK because of the nostalgia.

That, and I can't find the right words for things.

And that's where this is all wrong (or right, depending on how you look at it). The majority of our society, consisting of those who would shun bronies, have no idea that this isn't true. MLP is as successful as it is because it doesn't just cater solely to young girls. It's a cartoon, first and foremost. As with any cartoon, it's meant to be entertaining.

So yes, it is exotic, in that sense. But that's mainly due to unfounded judgements based on stereotypes.

And The Lion King is a movie catered towards small children.

Yeah, we've all heard that one before.

The message I was trying to get across was the difference between the two: TLK has some nostalgia value to it, which would justify being a fan of it, and MLP does not, which is what makes people think that bronies are messed up people.

But I don't find them to be messed up in any way. I'm just saying it's probably why the brony-haters think that way.
