I don't get why the only reason I am seeing for a "no" is that they don't think there will be competitors. If there are no competitors then the contest dies. Saying that you don't think there will be competitors is fine, but it has no basis to say against the idea. There is no risk of loss, and therefore no reason to denote the idea and not give it a chance. Saying it would be a waste of time really isn't plausible, because unless you actually have the contest you will never know if it will be a waste of time or not. This is not attacking anyone it is just simply pointing out that I haven't heard a good reason for not having the contest. A contest simply puts the contenders work out there and makes it to where they are made to do your best, because of the competition. I see it as a very good way to improve their writing skills.
The reason it could be bad that there aren't competitors, and why it's a big deal if it just so happens to die, is that not only would they of put all the hard work in trying to run the contest, but in the end it would just become spam, which MLK is already covered in to the point to where the mods can't even really fix it, anytime we try to. It would just be adding another topic onto that mess.
There are like uhm, mod things you can do like. Ban the spammers, delete the spam, or just say no to this...There is no spam that is somehow magically protected from mod actions.
I don't see why this is a big deal. If people wanna have a poetry contest, let them have a contest. I really fail to see the big deal? If people want to put effort in it with the risk that it fails, let them be.
