KONY 2012

^ I don't really see the point there.
First of all "Say they will be safe in future", this stuff has been on the decline for ages, it actually barely ever happens any more and not in Uganda since Kony has not set foot there for at least six years. Dude they are at FAR greater risk of dying from disease, starvation and poverty than they EVER will be from the LRA... The Ugandan army and 100 USA troops with complete high tech that easily thwarts the LRA have ensured that.
The LRA and Kony are small fry, why do people think that every country under the ICC have not made ANY effort to bring him down? They could, bt there are reasons why not.

Not to mention the Invisible Children group itself "The non-profit has come in for some criticism for channeling a majority of their raised funds -- some 70% or more according to some accounts -- to salaries, travel expenses and filmmaking, with charity watchdog Charity Navigator giving the group a low two-star rating for lack of financial accountability." That is pretty crap, they should be putting the money to their CAUSE not bloody staff wages.

This crap happens in other countries too btw, the one in Uganda is barely existent. I would much rather see a war to bring down the Mexican drug cartels for instance, than some dude.
There are worse thing in Uganda than this, the country is screwed! You are by law, KILLED for homosexuality there....

we can't avoid the obvious: There is oil in Uganda! That is the main reason this is being done. If you still believe the illusion that the united states or by extension the UN care about human suffering you must live under a rock or something. Just take a look at Syria, there is (almost) no oil in Syria. The situation is worse than the situation in Libya was. But why did we help Libya? because we cared so much about this tyrant? Don't kid yourselves. We cared because Libya has a lot of oil. We don't help in Syria because there is no oil. The same goes for Uganda.

Tullow Oil, say they have found another 1 billion dollar oil find in Northern Uganda'. Also Anaconda Company are in there in Uganda too. Of course when you have more oil being discovered, interest is ramped up somewhat.

Kony hasn't been active since 2006. Also the claimed ''over 1000'' soldiers appear to be only 200. Museveni (president Uganda) is doing many of the terrible things that Joseph Kony is being accused of and there is no logical reason to have this HUGE media hype campaign to go and get Kony and not Museveni as well. The main reason for all this is to find a place for AFRICOM and Uganda turns out to be the best place.

I like the awareness, but I know there's some sketchiness about that organization and what it does with the money it makes, and also yeah, where we get the forces from is sketchy. The US isn't in a great position internationally to send troops anywhere anyway, and I doubt anybody else will step up and do anything. Fip's got some great points too. Sad as it is, there are bigger fish to fry in the world. However, it's not like this is 'distracting' from those. I'd rather have people up in arms about Kony than about nothing at all. Some progress is better than no progress.

THE ICC: RECOGNIZING PROBLEMS AND DOING NOTHING ABOUT THEM SINCE FOREVER!

Also,

'On 14 October 2011, Rush Limbaugh, a political commentator, originally questioned the U.S. move against the LRA on the grounds that "Lord's Resistance Army are Christians. They are fighting the Muslims in Sudan. And Obama has sent troops, United States troops to remove them from the battlefield, which means kill them." "So that’s a new war, a hundred troops to wipe out Christians in Sudan, Uganda." Later, Limbaugh stated that he would research the group as he was made aware of accusations of their atrocities.[75] The show's written transcript was posted on his website under the title "Obama Invades Uganda, Targets Christians".'

I can't even find a facepalm image that does this justice. I've never heard anything so monumentally stupid, ignorant, and... sweet jesus no words

Were you talking to me? I would say its quite relevant that the man behind this project has been arrested for doing something incredibly stupid

Edit - and BTW its not "your" topic.

Alright guys, calm down.

I watched it, and I read about the dude getting arrested... in all honesty I believe that Kony needs to be stopped, but I don't think the government is smart enough is willing to go do something about it that will help.

And quite frankly... I laughed when I heard that the guy behind the project got taken in. xD

No, no, Scarred was going around posting about a "fake" member and not to trust them. xD I'm glad the post is now deleted.
And as the OP of this topic it technically is mine. IMO

Ooops, sorry I saw it and by the time I saw your post, the spam was deleted... No worries? ^^
For future reference though, this is exactly why mods say not to reply to spam posts / trolls.

But yeah, sorry for that misunderstanding, Emily.
So to get this back on topic, after reading about all the other posts, stories, opinions etc... What do you think of the KONY 2012 thing now? Because my viewpoints change almost every time I learn something new about Uganda =D
