Spoiler: show
So,I just got home from watching TLK in the theatre and I want to discuss some things about it. This was a preview,so it ran before the actual release date to all theatres. First of all, just to be able to watch TLK in theatres is an awesome opportunity,I don't regret spending one penny on it.
Now... There ARE changes made to the movie. The biggest and most obvious change is the morning report scene. That's right, the song is gone and is replaced with the original scene. There might be mixed emotions about this, but I think most people will agree that this is a good change. I like the original scene more,it's funnier and it gives a bit more character to Mufasa.
The other changes are regarding animation. Many scenes were redrawn so the facial expressions are sometimes a bit different, but that's hardly noticeable. Some scenes are also re-done themselves, but this is also hard to spot unless you're a TLK fan,it's mostly different camera angles and character movements. I don't realy have anything bad to say about this as it gives a little different feel to the movie, but for me it looks awesome. It's a bit of change and it's a good change. I'm glad to know they took the time to actually run over the scenes and think about what could be improved rather than just putting the movie in 3D. For example, notice when Scar tells Simba ''It's out little secret.'' how Simba re-drawn. There are also other examples of course, mostly noticeable during the Hakuna Matata scene and CYFTLT scene when Simba is climbing on the vines.
A lot of the minor mistakes during the movie were fixed. For example, during the IJCWTBK song when the Zebra's are turning their butts to Zazu, you don't see his shadow disappearing on the last frame. Unfortunately, one thing it is still not fixed and it's the thing with Simba's eye color during the scene with Mufasa's ghost.
I've seen the dubbed version of the movie, since I don't have any choice,so I wouldn't know if there's something different with the voices.
The 3D itself is not that visible actually. It's a change from the millions of 3D movies you see lately,so it's not amazing by the 3D feature. It wasn't made as a 3D movie in the first place,so a more gentler 3D projection is the only right way to do it.
I was just amazed by the King of Pride Rock scene at the end,it was just too epic to relive the emotions of it in the theatre. All in all, this was an amazing opportunity and I'm very glad that people have the chance to watch this again and also give the younger generations of children the chance to watch on of Disney's best movies of all time,if not the best ever. There were tons of kids in the theatre today and I'm glad that TLK is coming back after all.
P.S. Check out what I got from the folks in the cinema:
