Anyone else kind of get bored of TLK?

Postby FlipMode » April 22nd, 2011, 5:15 pm

Okay so I usually go through phases of like super appreciating the Films, and actually wanting to discuss them and stuff, like during my first months here where I pretty much only posted in the TLK sections. But this is the longest time I have gone pretty much not really being to interested in it all (by that I mean not once this year really). I mean it's a good film, but I would barely consider myself a fan, even my current avatar / sig have not a thing to do with TLK...

Does anyone else here go through phases of liking it, then forgetting all about it for a while, or is it just me?
And if you do, how do you get back into it? Because right now, i'm kind of questioning why i'm still using a TLK site, when I lack the energy to discuss them. Maybe because it is spring and the weather has been too nice to sit indoors but meh.

Just wanted other opinions and what not...

Honestly TLK was just a phase to me. I doubt I'm even a fan anymore.. I just come here to discuss in the off-topic section or post in any interesting TLK topics if there are any. I still like making up theories regarding the movie but that's it. I haven't watched the movies in months and I doubt I'm going to watch them anytime soon. So yes, I know how you feel.

Well, I suppose I'm pretty much the same. I still think TLK is a good film, no matter what, but I'm not that interested in it anymore. I might become more interested at a later date, but at the moment I'm actually in an Oblivion phase :S I really really like Oblivion now.

This exactly. I'm pretty much over TLK unless someone brings up something mildly interesting about it (like the upcoming blu ray edition, maybe). But other than that... it's just bleh for me. I only stick around here for my friends and the nostalgia and the VERY occasional TLK topic. I've completely given up on role plays, fan fics, etc. I'm still sorta into the fan art however, but even interest in that is starting to slip. I mean, when was the last time I ever made canon art? x3
So, tl;dr I'm on the same boat as Flip and Kops. I don't get how anyone can't get over an animated movie that was made 17 years ago. :/ The hype has long since died out, people have moved on... *shrugs* but meh, I guess there's no satisfying some people.

I'm not much now in TLK. It certanly is a good movie, but when I haven't watched it for a while I kinda had enough of Lion Art. I mean, that is just kinda weird when you draw only lions or write about them, sure I Role Play here, but I post recently in the Den's and The Den or Arcade. Because I kinda ain't any more in TLK, even my art is more wolves than Lions or OC's. I don't even write fan-fics about TLK. I write my own.

No. I can honestly say that I never, ever get bored of TLK. I do occasionally become well...not quite as interested in it as I was before. But never bored. If I watched the movies twice a day like some people do, I probably would. But I really try not to watch them too often, to avoid getting bored and killing the magic. It's worked so far =)

I have watched all three of the films, twice each, ever... So I do not think that the amount of times you watch it has much to do with it. I am not trying to create a topic for bashing the films or anything of that nature here, or starting some kind of "internetz warz" between those who agree and those who do not.

It is just that, there is only three movies (and actually I am not even going to count TLK 3 because it sucked so I am rounding that total down to two here). And there is only so much two films, two Disney films at that, with talking animals and all, can provide for an entire fan base. I just feel that all of the discussions, or more interesting ones have been done to death by now. Unless they make another sequel, which lets be honest, it is not looking likely, is it?
Even the upcoming Blu-Ray which Amanda was talking about in her post, I mean it is just re releasing the film in HD/3D at the end of the day. The whole Disney vault thing sound like a ploy to make money anyway.

I agree totally with you Flip. I mean, I'm more interested in Caracals than Lions at the moment, and I don't think that'll ever change XD In Oblivion my character's a Khajiit which is a lion/cat thing that's bipedal (Khajiits are awesome) so I think TLK definitely had an impact on the types of characters I like XD but yeah, I only really post in RP's, the Dens or the arcade :/

Definitely a phase. Outside of using it as a medium for creative writing, I have no more than a passing interest in TLK. ^^

With me, it's also most likely a phase. But at the same time, it has been going on for a while now (nearing a year), so at this moment, I am still a fan. I am a little bit less interested in it at this moment, but that is simply because I don't have as much free time as I had before: My "job" is stealing all my time away from me, and for something that payed about 50 dollars... funny! But I like my job, it's fun, interesting, and it teaches me a lot. The fact that it's slowly paying me is just an added bonus.

Do I miss the lion king? Yes and no.

For one thing, The Lion King is so embedded into other aspects of my life, that when I will do something else, I will be doing something related to the lion king. In what ways? I play Battlefield 2142. When I first started playing it, I also discovered this website, and specifically, the theater section. Using that, I discovered "He Lives in You" and "Lea Halalea". I listened to those 2 songs on repeat while playing 2142, that now whenever I play it, except for special circumstances, I would listen to these two songs. I am also a flight sim fan, and when testing out a new plane that I liked, I discovered the song "Lala". Due to my hardware limitations, I needed to fly away from cities. So I chose Kilimanjaro International Airport as my "home-base", and it still is (I have yet to get an upgrade). Now whenever I fly there, I might listen to other songs, but in the end of the day, it only feels complete with Lala. These are the biggest ways that I can think of at the moment that The Lion King is embedded in a non lion related thing in my life.

I also read fan-fics and RPs, look at fan art, etc. These things keep the Lion King fresh, and for some reason, the Lion King fandom has a higher ratio of good quality pieces. Therefore I always have something to look forwards to that is new. Also, new things happen in my life that I relate the Lion King to. As an example, yesterday I went flying, and thought "How would the Lion King characters feel like during flight?". Things like these keep my interest up. Also, The Lion King provides me with a reliable respite after a hard day of school (I often come home late), unlike other things that require a much longer time investment to cool down (like video games or my "job").

Another thing that keeps my interest up is that I avoid the "line by line" topics like the plague. Why? Because I know (based on a few scenes I saw on the production lips) that I will inevitably find a scene in the movies that I mostly forgot about, and will see them as fresh when The Lion King comes out on Blue Ray.

However like I said before, I am at a valley (that might still be dropping) in my interest. Mainly due to time constraints, I find that I am somewhat less interested in the Lion King. I do miss with a great deal of nostalgia the days when The Lion King was almost my entire life (last summer). This was wen I was discovering something new and big almost every day. Because I have swept through so much, I can at most look forward to a steady trickle.

Will I give up on The Lion King? Most likely not. The easiest way for me to tell is that most of my phases last a few days to a few weeks. My Lion King phase is close to reaching its one year mark. And as I write this, I also realize that I can gauge my phase level by how many times I write "The Lion King" versus "TLK". So actually, considering that apart from this example, I haven't used "TLK", and only "The Lion King", I might actually be increasing my "phase strength" just by writing this. And also by looking at the length of this post. I haven't written this much on these forums in a long time. Well, apart from my RP, and I have only been signed up for a month. Still feels like a long time.

Oh, and uh, I am listening to Lala at this very moment, and marveling at its beauty.
