Maneless lions in Zira's Pride?

it's extremely unlikely that they are (even though I originally thought Vitani was a maneless male when I was little XD). in real life, no more than 3 unrelated males are in a pride. even their sons will be driven out upon entering adolescence. and the number of related males in a pride is a little more, but still that's usually only in very large prides of like 30 members.

and another thought here, who says females HAVE to be feminine? especially in lionesses, where they need the muscle power to hunt. Sarabi, for instance, is far from the light girly form of Nala. she's broad, powerful, and heavy (more like real lionesses in build than any other TLK lioness). as to the scruffyness, that's more likely due to their living conditions as that has nothing to do with gender. they live in termite mounds, and as we've seen from Nuka, the termites are apt to bite them like fleas would. that scruffy look nearly all of them have is probably from scratching all the time. the end scene seems to prove this as the Outlanders are no longer scruffy but well-groomed.

besides, their height and length suggest that they are females. they're the same size as the Pridelander lionesses and clearly still smaller than Simba and Kovu.

Yep. The lionesses in Zira's pride are meant to be intimidating and scary looking, the opposite of the Pridelanders. So there are no males in Zira's pride, other than Kovu and Nuka. Unless there are males hiding in the bushes and under rocks.

This is a very common misconception. There is no "ruler" in a pride. Each has a role cut out; lionesses hunt for food, males guard the territory. And both spend about 20 hours loafing around digesting food XD But with around 7 lionesses and 2 males in a pride, the males could be taken down at anytime by them. 7 against 2? No way they can win! But each is vital to the pride.

In fact, there are almost no animals in the world who are truly "rulers." The only ones that could really be considered rulers are the female matriarch hyena and both the male and female wolf (more so the male.)

Gotta say, LL knows what she's on about. Males are just usually cast as the leaders, because they are men, and men tend to think they are better than women (Lol jokes, I know most men don't.)

My pride lies withing Gender Equality. There is no such thing as superior gender, and I hate sexism... be it against man or woman. I just get sick of hearing the gender dispute when lions get mentioned! Yeesh.

Maybe it's just acceptance. No, seriously, that's good. Everyone deserves to be equal, and have their own rights. However, there will always be someone that goes against that [like Dixck Masterson, apparently. I've never heard of him].. But I'm glad that men are seeing women as equals.... Even if it's a gradual process.
