Chapter 1 Hatari slowly woke as the sunlight hit her face. She was extreamly dizzy, and it took her a minute to see strait. The sun was just rising. Hatari lifted her head painfully and looked around. Something was off... nothing looked right. She didn't see the waterhole that she lived at, the funny shaped rock that looked like a hippo, or the half burned tree's that laid on the ground after a forest fire. Then she remembered. She remembered that storm, her parents, laying lifeless on the ground in front of her, the two loud bangs that still rang in her ears, and those funny looking creatures that had no fur, no claws, no tails, nothing an animal should have. She stood up and groaned from the pain and the dizziness. Her rear end still hurt from the sting that she got shortly after her parents death. When she looked back at it, there was a hole, bigger than a bee stings. It hurt more than a bee sting, too. Then, Hatari heard voices. A male's voice and a female's voice. Horrified, Hatari searched for cover. She spotted a small hole and ran inside it just before two lions came into veiw. The male lion had a dark pelt with an even darker main and a light brown under-belly, while the female as a much lighter color with an even lighter under-belly.
Kovu stopped and sniffed the air. He and Kiara were out on their morning walk before the lioness hunt. Kiara stopped and looked back at him.
"Something wrong?" She asked, walking over to him.
"I'm not sure." Kovu replied. "There's a strange sent here, can't you smell it?" Kiara sniffed the air.
"Yes, I smell it, too. It smells like a cub's been here, no one from our Pride." Kiara said, looking around.
"I don't smell a rouge." Kovu was abut to say something else when they both heard a young voice.
"OW!!!!!" Hatari shot out of her hiding spot right past them. A large snake was after her.
"What in the world...?" Kiara began. Kovu and Kiara starred for a second before Kovu caught up and put his paw on top of the serpent's head. It struggled, and Kovu let it go. It slithered back to it's hiding place.
"Good thing that snake's not poisoness." Kovu said. They both looked back in the direction Hatari was running. She was hiding behind a bush, though they could see her clearly. Kovu and Kiara both walked up to the bush. Kovu looked behind the bush with a smile, looking directly into Hatari's eye's. "Hi there." He said happily. Hatari was terrified. "Don't worry about a thing, that snake won't come back." He completely emerged. Kiara came up beside him.
"She looks terrified." She said with great worried in her voice. She bent down some. "Don't worry, we won't hurt you either. What's you name, little one?"
"Ha...Hatari." Hatari stampered. She was shaking like a leaf, and the spot where she was bitten throbed with pain. "I'm not dead... am I?" Kiara and Kovu both looked very confused.
"No... no you're not dead. I'm Kovu. And this is my wife, Kiara. Where are you from?" Kovu asked, also bending down slightly.
"I... I'm from Lion's lake." Kovu and Kiara looked at each other and both showed worry for her. They looked back at Hatari.
"Lion's Lake is a very long way from here..." Kiara mumbled. "You should come back to Pride Rock with us, it's not safe out here all by yourself." She said with a smile.
"Pride Rock? You're from Pride Rock?" Hatari asked with amazement. She had heard many wonderful stories of Pride Rock and the Pride Lands. Kovu nodded.
"There's also a second cave if you don't feel comefertable sleeping with the rest of the Pride." Hatari thought for a moment, then nodded.
"Okay..." She said. They both smiled as Kiara picked Hatari up be the scruff of her neck. She had the exact same gentelness that her mother had. Hatari's shaking died down some. They were soon at Pride Rock. Hatari was amazed at the sight, it was so huge! Kiara set Hatari down very gently in front of a small cave.
"You can stay here until you're ready to stay with us in the main den." She said softly. Hatari nodded and hurried inside. Another cub was watching. He looked a lot like Kovu, but was lighter brown than he was. He ran down from his veiwing spot and up to Kovu and Kiara.
"Hey, who's that?" He asked.
"Her name is Hatari and she's seemed to have lost her parents. She's staying with us for now." Kiara said.
"Maybe I should go say hi." He said cheerfully. He walked towards the cave.
"Whoa." Kovu grabbed the scruf of his neck and set him down away from the entrance. "She's terrified, Amadi. Leave her be for now, okay son?"
"Okay dad." Amadi answered. Kovu nuzzled him, then the three of them walked towards the main part of Pride Rock. At the same time, Hatari had currled up in the deepest, darkest part of the cave. She sighed, a few tears running down her cheek.
"I wish I was home..." She whispered to herself. A minute later, she was fast asleep.
