The Rising Tides: The Story of the Fallen Rouge

The Rising Tides: The Story of the Fallen Rouge

Postby Arani » December 23rd, 2010, 11:43 pm

Woot! I'm back with an actual Fan fiction! My book writing block has completely lifted, and I'm ready to write a fan fic again! I hope this is as good as my other Fan Fiction, the Lion king's mystic. Enjoy! :)

Prologue

The rain was heavy as a flash of lightning and a clap of thunder came and died. Then another... and another. The rain came down unceasingly. And those, to Hatari anyway, were the sights and sounds of death... And on this night she remembered... she remembered everything...

"Mom? Dad? Wake up... wake up!!!" Hatari screamed into the night over the rain that was pounding on the ground. Her voice was instantly lost to the howling wind and the pouring rain. Tears were streaming down her cheeks as she nudged the bodies of her parents, who were alive and well one minute, and the next were laying in front of Hatari, cold and lifeless. What happened? All she heard were two loud bangs, and when she turned again, her parents were dead. How? And why? She tried once more to wake them, but it was no use. She backed away from the corpsus. The rain had become harder now. Her fur, though it was short, was clinging tightly to her body. She was soaked through, and was shivering from the cold. Suddenly, as if the devils had come to take her away as well, something sharp hit her in the rear end. She turned to see weird creatures walking towards her. They had pale skin with no fur, and they were wearing funny looking things that covered most of their bodies. One was holding a long black stick with a hole at the end. Her vision started to blur, and then suddenly, she was fast asleep...

(Chapter 1 coming soon.)

Chapter 1

Hatari slowly woke as the sunlight hit her face. She was extreamly dizzy, and it took her a minute to see strait. The sun was just rising. Hatari lifted her head painfully and looked around. Something was off... nothing looked right. She didn't see the waterhole that she lived at, the funny shaped rock that looked like a hippo, or the half burned tree's that laid on the ground after a forest fire. Then she remembered. She remembered that storm, her parents, laying lifeless on the ground in front of her, the two loud bangs that still rang in her ears, and those funny looking creatures that had no fur, no claws, no tails, nothing an animal should have. She stood up and groaned from the pain and the dizziness. Her rear end still hurt from the sting that she got shortly after her parents death. When she looked back at it, there was a hole, bigger than a bee stings. It hurt more than a bee sting, too. Then, Hatari heard voices. A male's voice and a female's voice. Horrified, Hatari searched for cover. She spotted a small hole and ran inside it just before two lions came into veiw. The male lion had a dark pelt with an even darker main and a light brown under-belly, while the female as a much lighter color with an even lighter under-belly.

Kovu stopped and sniffed the air. He and Kiara were out on their morning walk before the lioness hunt. Kiara stopped and looked back at him.

"Something wrong?" She asked, walking over to him.

"I'm not sure." Kovu replied. "There's a strange sent here, can't you smell it?" Kiara sniffed the air.

"Yes, I smell it, too. It smells like a cub's been here, no one from our Pride." Kiara said, looking around.

"I don't smell a rouge." Kovu was abut to say something else when they both heard a young voice.

"OW!!!!!" Hatari shot out of her hiding spot right past them. A large snake was after her.

"What in the world...?" Kiara began. Kovu and Kiara starred for a second before Kovu caught up and put his paw on top of the serpent's head. It struggled, and Kovu let it go. It slithered back to it's hiding place.

"Good thing that snake's not poisoness." Kovu said. They both looked back in the direction Hatari was running. She was hiding behind a bush, though they could see her clearly. Kovu and Kiara both walked up to the bush. Kovu looked behind the bush with a smile, looking directly into Hatari's eye's. "Hi there." He said happily. Hatari was terrified. "Don't worry about a thing, that snake won't come back." He completely emerged. Kiara came up beside him.

"She looks terrified." She said with great worried in her voice. She bent down some. "Don't worry, we won't hurt you either. What's you name, little one?"

"Ha...Hatari." Hatari stampered. She was shaking like a leaf, and the spot where she was bitten throbed with pain. "I'm not dead... am I?" Kiara and Kovu both looked very confused.

"No... no you're not dead. I'm Kovu. And this is my wife, Kiara. Where are you from?" Kovu asked, also bending down slightly.

"I... I'm from Lion's lake." Kovu and Kiara looked at each other and both showed worry for her. They looked back at Hatari.

"Lion's Lake is a very long way from here..." Kiara mumbled. "You should come back to Pride Rock with us, it's not safe out here all by yourself." She said with a smile.

"Pride Rock? You're from Pride Rock?" Hatari asked with amazement. She had heard many wonderful stories of Pride Rock and the Pride Lands. Kovu nodded.

"There's also a second cave if you don't feel comefertable sleeping with the rest of the Pride." Hatari thought for a moment, then nodded.

"Okay..." She said. They both smiled as Kiara picked Hatari up be the scruff of her neck. She had the exact same gentelness that her mother had. Hatari's shaking died down some. They were soon at Pride Rock. Hatari was amazed at the sight, it was so huge! Kiara set Hatari down very gently in front of a small cave.

"You can stay here until you're ready to stay with us in the main den." She said softly. Hatari nodded and hurried inside. Another cub was watching. He looked a lot like Kovu, but was lighter brown than he was. He ran down from his veiwing spot and up to Kovu and Kiara.

"Hey, who's that?" He asked.

"Her name is Hatari and she's seemed to have lost her parents. She's staying with us for now." Kiara said.

"Maybe I should go say hi." He said cheerfully. He walked towards the cave.

"Whoa." Kovu grabbed the scruf of his neck and set him down away from the entrance. "She's terrified, Amadi. Leave her be for now, okay son?"

"Okay dad." Amadi answered. Kovu nuzzled him, then the three of them walked towards the main part of Pride Rock. At the same time, Hatari had currled up in the deepest, darkest part of the cave. She sighed, a few tears running down her cheek.

"I wish I was home..." She whispered to herself. A minute later, she was fast asleep.

Chapter 2

Amadi slowly woke as someone kept pushing him. When he opened his eye's, he saw Kiara starring down at him with a smile.

"Good morning sleepy head. You've been asleep all day, get up." She gently pushed him to his feet.

"I couldn't fall asleep last night." Amadi said with a yawn. He rubbed his eye's with the back of one of his front paws.

"Why don't you go down to the water hole and splash some water on your face, that'll wake you up." Kiara smiled again and walked out of the den. Amadi started to make his way down Pride Rock. Then, he passed Hatari's cave. He stopped.

"Why hasn't she come out and talked to anyone yet? It's been a week already!" He asked himself. Then, he slowly went inside. "Hello? Hatari, you here?" Hatari opened her eye's and looked at him from the middle of the cave. Her yellow eye's were piercing against the black darkness of the cave behind her. "Hi." He said with a smile.

"For a prince you sure don't follow orders to well." Hatari said, getting up and walking towards the back of the cave.

"well gee, it's nice to meet you, too." He said in a sarcastic voice. "And it wasn't an order, my dad gave me a suggestion. And you've been in here an entire week and have only left like what? 4 times? And you haven't talked to anybody!"

"Only leave for water." She said, curling up in a darker spot of the den.

"You do know that Zazu is looking for your parents, right?" Amadi asked, stepping further into the den.

"He's not going to find my parents no matter how hard he tries." Hatari said flatly, eye's closed and head turned away from Amadi.

"Why not?" Amadi asked, suddenly very curious about her parents.

"Because." Hatari said simply. "Now are you gonna talk all day or are you going to get back to the duties of being a prince?"

"I don't really have duties yet, thank you very much. I was just on my way to the water hole and thought I would ask if you would like to come along so we can get to know each other better."

Hatari sighed and stood. "Fine." She said, walking towards him. "Lets go." She walked past him and out of the cave. Amadi starred at her for a second, then ran after her. They were soon at the small water hole closest to Pride Rock. Amadi splashed some water on his face. "I've heard many wonderful stories about this place from my mum." Hatari said, looking around.

"Oh ya? Like what?" Amadi asked, starring at the fish in the pond.

"All kinds of stories. The great kings, the lush green, the abundance of food. You're very lucky to be living in a place like this." She said, sitting down next to him at the water's edge.

"Where did you grow up?" Amadi asked, swatting at the fish, trying to catch one.

Hatari sighed, peering at her reflection in the water. "A place called Lion's Lake. I'll tell ya, it was a wonderful place." She said, closing her eye's to remember. "Full of green and flowers and lots of caves, and the lake... it sparkled in the sunlight, sometimes so bright you couldn't even look at it, but it was so beautiful and crystal clear." She sighed once more, turning away from the water. Amadi was looking at her now. And he saw something in her face that didn't look right. Was it Grief, sadness, pain, maybe all three? What ever he saw, he knew one thing: Something terrible had happened to her. He stood and walked up behind her.

"Did... something happen?" Hatari didn't move or make a sound. "It's okay, you can tell me."

"Ya, well I don't want to tell you." She snapped back, making him jump slightly. "I don't want anyone to know..." Then, she started walking back towards her den. Amadi watched her go with a sad face. Hatari didn't speak to anyone the rest of that day...

Chapter 3

Hatari starred into the darkness of the cave, lost deep in thought. "He just HAD to push me on the matter, didn't he?" She whispered to herself. "Then again, he was only curious... he couldn't have known... maybe I should go back and apologise..."

Hatari shook her head. "Get a grip girl! Your solid now, you won't let anyone inside now. It's only gonna cause more pain." She got up and started pacing. She was restless and felt the urge to go outside again, but she couldn't get her body to go out of the cave. She so badly wanted to run... just run. Leave everything behind. This place was beautiful... but she felt like she didn't belong here. Someone like her, especially, didn't belong here. But, no matter how many times she told herself "Ready, set, go!" she couldn't get herself to budge. One part of her wanted to leave this place behind, but the other part of her wanted to stay and make friends and be happy. She slapped herself.

"Crazy crazy crazy!" She mumbled to herself. "You're a lone lioness now. Don't let anyone inside." But every time she thought about it, her thoughts shifted over to Amadi. When she talked about where she was from... and in the moment when she remembered... she could swear that he showed sadness for her. Why though? He didn't know her at all. Everyone she ever came across was mean and nasty and bloodthirsty. Why were all these lions and lionesses being so nice to her? She didn't understand it... no one had ever been nice to her besides her parents. It felt nice in a way... for someone other than her parents to actally be kind to her instead of trying to kill her all the time. A big change from her old life. She snapped out of her thoughts to see herself walking closer to the entrance. This time, she didn't stop herself. She slowly made her way outside and walked the way Kiara and Kovu had gone the week before.

It was a large area. She looked up. The sun was just hidden behind the peak of Pride Rock. "A big pointy rock. This just keeps getting better and better." She said saracasticly and kept walking. She suddenly stopped cold in her tracks. She smelled lions... tons of them. She'd never smelled so many at one time. She started to back away but stoped. She was braver than this. She kept walking. She soon came across Pride Rock's group area. A large space near the bottom of Pride Rock, and it was filled with lionesses. She just starred. There were was to many. She wasn't the shy type of cub, but she couldn't get herself to go out there and say hi. She slowly started to back away.

Kovu was talking to Kiara and Vitani in the sun. Amadi would be in soon, then they would go out for some lessons. He looked up, and to his surprise, he saw Hatari. She slowly started t back into the shadows.

"I'll be back in a second." He said, standing up. Kiara nodded and kept on talking with vitani. Kovu made his way towards the spot Hatari had been standing at only moments ago.

Hatari made her way backwards, deeper into the shadows.

"Well you finally decided to come out for a look-see." Hatari whirled around to see Kovu standing behind her with a smile. She let out a slight sigh of reliefe.

"I, uh... Well you see..." She stampered. She was lost for words. But, to her surprise, Kovu laughed.

"It's okay. I understand." He said. "Let me guess. Rouge Parents. Been a rouge all your life and it's difficult to change, am I right?" He asked. Hatari was surprised at how accurate he was and nodded. "Thought so." He lowered his head. "You know, I was a rought once, too. Believe me, I know what it's like, feeling like an outcast all the time... not fun." He looked around. "And just between us, I sometimes miss the good old days of freedom. I can tell just by looking at you that you love freedom, huh?" He stood up strait, winked, and walked away. Hatari was stunned. The king? A rouge? Was that even possible? She walked back to her veiwing spot and looked at Kiara. 'Was she a rouge too? No, impossible. She was probably the Princess and fell in love with the rouge.' She thought to herself. This made her all the more curious. She started walking again, but this time, she was walking up the path to the top of Pride Rock.

Chapter 4

Amadi made his way back to Pride Rock.

"That was so stupid!" He scolded himself over and over. "First time I talk to her and I get her upset. Nice going, Amadi. Way to show her your not a stuck up brat." He rolled his eyes and kept going. He soon got to Pride Rock. Before he found his father, he found someone else: Hatari. She was just walking up the past towards the peak of Pride Rock. He took a deep breath, then followed her. When he got to the top, Hatari was sitting there, starring out over the land. She apparently knew he was there because she started talking.

"It's amazing." She whispered, letting it all soak in.

"Ya." Amadi agreed. He then sighed. "Listen, I'm sorry about... about earlier. I didn't know that you didn't want to talk about it." To his surprise, Hatari stood and walked up to him.

"It's alright. I guess anyone would be curious about my past. Truth is, rouges aren't very good at sharing our pasts."

"You're a rouge?" Amadi asked in wonder. Hatari nodded.

"So were my parents. It's difficult to explain, maybe some day I'll feel comfortable with sharing, but right right now, I'm not." She started to walk past him. She started on the path down when she suddenly stopped once more. "Oh, and uh, thanks for caring." Then, she ran. Amadi just starred, dumbstruck that she noticed that he cared.

"Hey!, Uh... wait for me!!" He called, running after her. He soon caught up. "I need to go train with my father, but when I'm done do you maybe wanna go out and play some more?" He asked hopefully.

"I don't see why not but can it be tomorrow?" She asked.

"Ya sure. What ever works best." He said excitedly.

"Alright then, first thing tomorrow." Hatari said as they reached the end of the path. She walked towards her den.

"Okay." Amadi agreed, then, he ran off to find his father. And as he was running, he noticed one thing: Hatari never smiled.

(Sorry that it's so short. 0_o')

Chapter 5:

Hatari woke up early. She looked outside. The sun was just in the right spot, illuminating the entire cave. She groaned and stood. "Stupid sun." She muttered, walking halfway out of the cave to look around. some of the lionesses were already up. They didn't seem to notice her. She was just about to go back inside when someone jumped in front of her.

"Hi!" Hatari jumped back with a gasp. It was Amadi. He laughed. "Morning." He said with an amused smile. She rolled her eyes.

"You're dad's waiting on you, right?" She asked with a yawn.

"Ya, but I though I'd stop by first and make sure we're still on for this afternoon."

"Ya we are, not hurry up or your dad's gonna get mad."

"Kay, see ya!" He called, running off. She watched him go, then sighed, walking back and finding a cool place to lay down.

"Crazy cub." She whispered to herself, closing her eyes again. "Just like Danny..." She whispered before drifting back to sleep.

She woke a few hours later as someone kept pushing her. She groaned, opening her eyes. She then saw Amadi, sitting in front o her with a smile.

"Geez, you sure do like to sleep, dont'cha? I've been trying to wake you for ten minutes! It's time to go!"

Hatari sighed and stood. "Alright, Hot Shot, lets go." She walked out of the cave. Amadi sat there with a confused face. He ran after her.

"Hot shot?" He asked when he caught up.

"Well ya, a little spitfire like you has got to have Hot Shot as a nickname."

"I'm not little." He said, getting a little annoyed.

"Well you ain't as big as the rest of the Pride. Not saying your small for your age or anything. You've just got way to much energy."

"Oh really?" He asked with a playful smile.

"Don't even try it." She said. His smile faded. "Cuz I'd pin you in a second." His face lit up again.

"Wanna bet?" He asked. He then pounced on her. They wrestled for a minute before she pinned him to the ground.

"See?" She asked, getting of of him. She kept walking.

"Alright alright fine, what ever." He said. "What do you wanna do?" He asked.

"I dunno, what's there to do around here?" She asked, slowly scanning the area.

"Well, we could go swimming, or play tag, or go for a walk, or climb this huge hill I found a few days ago!"

"You sure like to talk, dont'cha?" Hatari asked, making Amadi lift an eyebrow at her.

"It's my nature." He said with a serious yet playful tone.

"A walk sounds... nice." She said hesitantly.

"Then a walk it is!" Amadi agreed. A little while passed. The sun was beginning to set. Amadi kept talking and talking and talking, while Hatari stayed quiet, listening and occasionally asking a question or putting in her own thought.

"So then, there was this HUGE flash and it was so bright it illuminated everything! Only for a split second though. I forgot the name though..."

"Lightning?" She asked, bored.

"Ya, lightning. It scared all the bird in this nest stiff! Oh god it was so funny!" He was laughing hard now, while Hatari's expression didn't change from a frown. "Oh c'mon, you gotta admit, it's pretty funny."

"Ya I guess." She said, looking up at the sky. "But from where I come from we get thunderstorms a lot at this time of year.

"Okay, here's a question for you. How come you never smile?" He asked, suddenly serious for an answer. Hatari only shrugged.

"It's my nature." She said casually.

"But..." Amadi began.

"Listen Amadi, I know what you're trying to do. I know you want to try and help me and be my friend, but nothing can help me. And we can't really be friend, I mean we couldn't be more oposite from each other. I'm alright with talking with you but you should stop trying before you get into something you don't want to get into." Amadi just starred at her. "What?" She asked.

"I don't wanna stop trying." He said, making Hatari stop with a semi-surprised face. Amadi stopped and turned. "So what if we're different? You need a friend around here, and I hope I can be that friend." Hatari just starred at him, then tried to cover up a smile as she walked passed him.

"Then come on, Hot Shot, lets get home." She called back. Amadi smiled and ran after her. He was one step closer to becoming her friend.
