FAA Mods?

Hi! Welcome to the Feedback forum.
Before reading anything or asking anything; please check out the FAQs. Your question might be in there. However if you want a better understanding after reading the FAQs, like if it didn't explain it good enough, then by all means ask your question.

Please read the following before posting in this forum...

In this forum you will see an Announcement, and several "sticky" topics. The announcement is the Universal Board Rules. If you are new, read this before doing anything else! The sticky topics will stay above and separated from normal user-made topics in the forum. This is because they outline important information about the board. If you see a sticky topic concerning your issue, please reply with your question or concern in the correct topic. Moderators will see your reply within these topics. Before asking your question, be sure to read the topic and its first page especially. It contains information about your issue that is valuable and may even answer your questions. If the topic does not answer your question, ask your question within the topic, not the forum. If no sticky topic concerns your issue, then you are welcome to ask your own questions by creating a new topic within the forum.

Thank you for keeping the Board Help forum organized!

Im just saying. In the space of 3 months we've already had two mods leave and two others enter. KK and Moka are like the only staff members with permanent positions here.
I think it's a good idea. I see artwork being stolen/traced so much here that it's ridiculous, and no offense to the mods but it's a real pain to keep reporting these pics over and over again instead of getting them noticed and removed by the mods themselves.. I mean, enforcing this Universal Rule is their job right? :/ I've seen stolen artwork that I noticed in a single day that takes weeks for the staff to find out about it. I wouldn't mind helping out every once in a while but it feels more like a chore than offering a helping hand when it comes to dealing with stuff like this.
It's also not just theft that I notice, but general disregard for the rules overall. I've seen people upload pics that are completely off-topic and sometimes get away with it.
Amanda, I can't notice stolen art if I don't recognize that it's stolen. It takes a community to recognize stolen art, which is why I implemented that "Flag as inappropriate" system, and some members have been using it. If artwork is flagged and a link to the original picture is given, I will deal with it but if no one reports the art as stolen there is no way for me to know. I'm not an artist and I don't really recognize any Lion King picture outside of the FAA and that's just because I'm fairly new to the Lion King online community. No, I'm not the best person to moderate the FAA, but the FAA has fairly buggy moderation tools and it sometimes needs a helping hand in the database to make things work just right. I'm the only one who can do that right now, I just need people to help me out by flagging artwork and linking to the original artwork.

I'm working on the new FAA, which will have lots of options for moderators, but that's about a year away from being anywhere near ready.

For what it's worth, I don't think it would hurt all too much if the staff appointed at least one person to sorta help out with this, if it's something viable in terms of moderator powers. Someone who is around the TLK fanart community quite often (Annie? Sillydog? To name a few) would probably have a good knowledge of art styles and such and would probably do a great job at keeping tabs on these sorts of things.

I don't think it's a necessary addition but I don't think it would hurt either. Life'll go on either way and the Flag option already implemented is formidable anyway.

Well I agree that the position is needed, and that it should be filled by a member who is around the TLK fan art community a lot, but the moderation tools just aren't there yet. The FAA isn't a refined piece of software like the forum is - it's still in development. To remove content from the FAA as a moderator sometimes requires database manipulation and I really need to hold its hand sometimes.

Worry not, I'll have some solid moderation tools in the next version of the FAA :)

Ah, I know what you mean. I can finish a whole HTML page in about an hour, and that's sugar-coating it. You have to design the whole layout and moderation tools. I'm sure we will all appreciate whatever you come up with. :)

May I suggest, if you're really considering having a moderator, opening a voting for who?

Absolutely :)

Actually we were planning on doing something like that for all new staff, thanks to some input from some members :D
