For me, Kovu is more than just a character, he is a conduit through which I survive the detriments of my environment. He is the strength I need to survive. By understanding him, I can understand myself. His character is much more complex than he is given credit for. Kovu is often given off to be a simple, manipulated being, but he isn't. Kovu is in a constant state of metamorphasis and internal battle. He moves from brain washed tool, to independant rogue, to loving champion against his mother. Kovu is a key player in this story. If he were simply a suitor, then why does Mufasa deem him to be the one for Kiara instead of someone less dangerous to the thrown? His status makes him a necessary piece of this puzzle. Everyone tries to control him, but in reality, he can barely begin to control himself. He is meant for much more than just a little filler character to let Kiara mature.

I all alone beweep my outcast state
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries
And look upon myself and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possess'd,
Desiring this man's art and that man's scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee, and then my state,
Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate;
For thy sweet love remember'd such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings." -William Shakespeare-
When I read this Sonnet, the first character I thought of was Kovu. It seems like this poem is following Kovu's story... at least from what I've gathered. I am a poetic expert, not a Kovu expert. Care to enlighten me on this Rogue?
