My mom can't afford insurance either, again because of the greed of insurance companies after Obamacare went into place. What used to be something like 80 bucks a month is now over a hundred. My mom has a few lumps that probably need removing, but can't go do that.
I don't hate Obamacare, as we were desperate for some solution to the circular problem of too sick to look for work -> can't get medical help without job. Which was only compounded by how ludicrously hard it is to get a job nowadays. But I do so badly wish insurance companies hadn't reacted to Obamacare the way they did, crying "wahh wahh we're gonna lose money we better make severe cutbacks" because it left my mom and I, and I'm sure thousands of others, out thousands of dollars. There's way too much money in the healthcare industry in this country. For those outside the US, it's worth pointing out that healthcare costs are astronomical here. Need surgery? That's gonna be thousands of dollars. Even with insurance covering 80% of those costs, you can see why that would still cost the person a lot. 20% of $10,000 is $2,000, and surgery is often more than that. It's a bad idea to repeal Obamacare because there are many who need it, but you can see where people would be upset at it.
I just so badly wish I lived in a country where it didn't feel like it was either "screw the poor" or "screw the middle class"
