I think it really helps reduce unemployment and crime rates as it takes the uneducated and unruly youngster off the streets.
It improves the general health of the population which means that the national health service/health sector will not be put under as much strain and would therefore save millions.
I realise you say that discipline should be taught by schools, and i agree-but unfortunately quite a lot of the time that just isn't the case. Also promotion and the direct leadership of people that comes with it gives a sense of responsibility as well as discipline.
