Foreign Language Topic

(It is not necessary to go live abroad to be important to know another language - fluently or just a little bit. It is just needed to, for example, visit X country. A lot of people assume that it's not necessary to know a minimal of that country's language, because they [visitors] speak English. Yes, it's the "international language", however there are countries in which a lot of people get insulted when visitors criticize the "I don't know English" or the refuse of its use, like if this is the native's obligation. I was mostly referring to these type of people, not those who do not visit any other country and stay in their birth country.)

(Yeah, I speak it. Not as well as a native Spanish-speaker but I'm fluent in writing and reading and I can listen well. A short visit to a Hispanic country should better my speaking abilities. So I'd say that I'm fluent in the language overall.)

EDIT: Ninja'd, but true. Guess I'm doing better than 90% of Americans. xD
Que guay! Puedes comprender el Português? Estoy preguntando por pura curiosidad.

(That's cool! Can you understand Portuguese? I'm asking out of pure curiosity.)

(A little bit by listening - every once in a while I pick up a couple words or a phrase. When written, however, I understand a lot. I can recognize most of what you say in your posts in a normal situation.)

Yes.

Haha! I'd love to be fluent in another language but I know bits and bobs of a few languages.

(That's very good! I think I've already asked this, but when did you start learning Spanish?)
