Shenzi's appearance is very square and ragged, her forehead has bangs protruding from her and a black and grey coat. As with the custom of hyenas, she has a curved back that slants upwards with a tuft of fur at the tip. Her eyelids and lips are lined with black; and her ears are straight and flexible.

Shenzi is sassy, and appears to be the leader of the group of hyenas including Banzai and Ed, as she often takes command in more serious situations, she is also the only female out of the group of hyenas. Shenzi tried to catch Nala in the Elephant Graveyard but was scratched by Simba with his claws.She is the only one out the group of hyenas who talks to Scar about problems like when the Pride Lands were barren with no food and no water. Shenzi is a resident of the Elephant Graveyard along with Banzai and Ed.Shenzi dislikes her pals when they fight with each other because it annoys her. Shenzi is one of the hyenas confirmed to have survived the fire at Pride Rock along with Ed and Banzai.
