Ryder, hearing the comment, stands up to go and sniff Xavier. She sits by him and looks up with her green eyes.

Lana smiles, glad to have company.

Xavier bent down, lightly scratching between her ears. He grinned at the wolf, the fur soft under his fingers.

'Do you know where they went?' He asked Lana, meaning Giovanni and River.

'I think it was to the forest...But separate.' She says, looking around the room, 'So, how's the magic going?'

He smiled slightly, flexing his hand. A piece of paper which had been left on the side fluttered to the floor, resulting in a proud grin appearing on Xavier's face.

'Nice.' She comments, 'So...What's your backstory then?'

Xavier shrugged.

'My parents died in a fire, I got left with some abusive relatives, I tried to run, they make up some cock-and-bull story about me being an attempted murderer, and I get chucked out, a marked man.' He drew back his sleeve to show the burt 'O' on his wrist.

She frowns worriedly.

'Same sort of story with me... Maybe we're more alike than we think...'

Xavier smiled.

'Good. You should never be left alone in your life.'

She didn't know why but she felt herself blush slightly.
