Decide My Fan Fiction's Fate

So, the funniest thing happened to me earlier this morning. I went to bed at around 11pm (PST) last night but woke up at around 1:30am in the morning with my mind racing about several different things that relate to Fan Fiction writing and RPing here on MLK. It was weird but I had a sudden urge to start writing again, but I was torn on what I should do. I honestly think that RPing here on MLK has lit that creative flame that once used to burn rather brightly within my mind, to write Fan Fictions but I never really found that spark or motivation to get back into it. I sort of feel like that this was a sign of some sort. Either that or I ate way too much ice cream before I went to bed, but whatever the case may be, I ask for all of your opinions on what I should do. Here's what came to my mind and I'd really like all of your feedback on what the outcome of my latest (well sort of latest) Fan Fiction should be.

Okay, so the first thought that was swimming around in my mind, was to write a detailed backstory on my new OC Zina, who I'm really enjoying playing as in the RPs she's featured in. This idea sort of went out though, due to the mature subject matter that I would have to deal with in order to get her story across, so I sort of set this idea on the back burner for the time being. It's probably more appropriate for fanfiction.net or maybe even YiffStar, but that's another matter altogether, so on with the real point of this thread.

The next idea that kept tugging at my mind, was to returrn back to the Fan Fiction I had started writing over a year ago. I only had 4 chapters written for it, but I have so many ideas of how I want the plot to develop and how I wanted the story to end. That all seems fine and dandy right? Well, I'm sort of at an impasse of what to do though.

One side of me really wants to continue the story as is, and run it all the way through myself. Obviously this seems like the way to go, but there again, I've also really wanted to try and make another original RP here on MLK that I'd hope people could enjoy taking part in. I was a bit inspired by Moka's The Sea Token idea, which I truly wished would have taken off better than it had, but that still didn't stop me from actually considering turning my Fan Fiction plot into a new RP here on MLK.

So, here's the deal. I want anyone who is interested in this story that I'm writing, to giv me your feedback and vote at the top of this thread on what the fate of my Fan Fiction should be. While I'm just gauging everyone's opinions here and might not go with whatever the results of the poll may be, I really would value anyone's input on this matter as my creative muse is torn between the two options. To help you all decide a little easier, I'll list a few pros and cons for each choice below. You may or may not want to take them into consideration before casting your vote but hopefully they can help to shed a bit of light upon why I want to do either option.

Writing the rest myself:

The pros of this option are pretty obvious. The story will turn out exactly how I originally invisioned it. All the characters that I had planned for the story would stay true to character and wouldn't be altered in any way. I could finally say that I finished another Fan Fic, bringing my lonely count to a low 3, not counting my *coughs* other *coughs* stories that relate to TLK.

The cons of actually finishing the story on my own means that it'll be a LOT of work on my part and might take away from my time with other projects I'm involved in, both here on MLK and YouTube, as I like to have a very clear mind when I write my Fan Fics. Even with everything I have planned out for the story, it might not turn out very well, seeing as I have a strange idea for the second half of the story, which some of you might be able to figure out from the Fan Fic's title. lol. Altering this story from what it originally was going to be might disappoint someone, who I originally started writing this story for.

Turn this into a RP:

The pros of this would be that more people could help develop this story and could possibly turn it into something much bigger and better than what I had previously imagined. This would mean less work on my part, meaning that I could stay active with other projects that I'm already involved with. The fore-mentioned person who I was writing this story for, could actually take part in it and help create it into something unforgettable.

The cons for this option are that the story could completely fall flat on its face and die a horrid death as it gathers dust in the Archived RPs board. lol. Some of the characters that I thought up, would not be used, or they would be altered so that people would feel more inclined to RP as them. People who join the RP, might not really understand what the story is about and what plot I had in mind for it. (yes, I know RPs are intended to have open storylines, but some of the best RPs out there have a set plot that the RP follows in order to ensure its success. *coughs* Little Stranger *coughs*)

Okay, now with that stated, I'll list the link for the Fan Fic, or at least the 4 chapters I have already written for it, once I adjust everything within the text so it looks presentable for PHPBB. Please read the entire story and think about your choice before casting your vote. This really is important to me, so if you don't really care about this matter, don't bother voting. I won't be offended if no one even votes. Like I said, it's just to gauge opinions and to help me come to a descision myself. lol. I would like to thank you all in advance though, for those who do take the time to read my work and to give me their feedback. Also, if you'd like to comment on the story itself, please do so in this thread. It will keep the actual Fan Fic Story thread itself, clean and free of extra posts, just in case I end up actually continuing the story myself after everyone gives me their 2 cents about what I should do with it. I hope you all will at least get a bit of enjoyment out of reading what few chapters I have to offer for this story and hopefully it won't feel like I'm asking you all too much. hehe. ^^

I voted the first option. Sure, it can be hard to write a fan-fiction, but I believe that if you turn it into a RP it with probably end up in the Archived RPs. It happens a lot due to inactivity. That's just my opinion through. ^^

I think this would make a fabulous RP. With other peoples' creative ideas, who knows how creative the ending could be.

I went for the second option. Here's my thinking:

I have no doubt that this would continue to make for a fantastic fanfic (judging by the first few chapters), but that being said, I think it could be brought to its creative peak as an RP. I've always thought that some of the best works are spawned from multiple people contributing to one central idea... who knows, I know you've got a set idea on where you'd like this thing to go, but perhaps having it as an RP could, dare I say it, improve it!

That being said, I've never RPed in my life (would love to but don't really know how to get into it, LOL) whereas I've been writing fanfics for years, so my vote doesn't really make that much sense, I guess. I don't know all that much about RPing so what I am saying could be totally missing the point.

But fanfics are generally a very strenuous undertaking, as you mentioned. They'd take so much more time than an RP, and who says it'd ever even get finished? One of the vices of fanfic writers (most, at least; not saying this is you but it could be, LOL) is working on a fic for a little bit, getting a new idea and moving on, leaving the previous fic unfinished and never coming back to it. Lord knows I've done it plenty of times. An RP would probably be less likely to have that happen, since there'd be more people keeping it alive rather than just one person being relied upon to keep the story going.

You seem to be a really busy person in the fandom. I feel like this would be the best way to keep this idea going, else we might not see the fanfic updated much at all given all the things you seem to participate in. As long as everyone participating in the RP knows exactly where you wanted to go with the storyline, I think it could work quite well!

Well, to be honest KM, I don't know too much about the RPs you're in. However, I've read all of your Fan Fictions that you released recently and I must say, I really do like your work. I already went ahead and cast my vote on what I think you'll do well in. ^^ Regardless of your motivation, I think you'll do well writing off on your own. For what idea you may do, I'll still support you since I really do believe in you for anything you may do in life. ^^ However, if you can't make a Fan Fiction by yourself right now, I suppose the RP won't be as bad but the bad side is, some of them don't last too long and die short. On the positive side of the RP idea, more people can contribute to your ideals and make things go smoothly. An ending to your Fan Fiction RP wise, will not take as long if you were writing by yourself. ^^

My personal opinion though, writing your own is what I like best about your characteristic. I'm not sure which idea you may wanna go with seeing how I don't wanna be the judge of that lol. Whatever your idea is may go with, even if it's a new RP or not, I'll support you. If you feel that you'll capable of writing your own here and there, go for that. ^^

Also, I got the hint somewhere in your post about the original Fan Fiction idea you were going for but to be honest, I can't really tell you what to do lol. I'll just leave it at that. I really did enjoy what you've written so far in this Fan Fiction and any alternative you may do, I guess there's nothing I can do about that since it is your work.

@ YFWE: Your feedback really does mean a lot to me YFWE, since you're an amazing Fan Fic writer yourself and I truly take what you say to heart. In my eyes, there are quite a few similarities to Fan Fic writing and RPing and I understand what you're saying. I still need to write out a few chapters that cover The Tenebrous Pride regardless of what option I go with, seeing as only The Aurora Pride members have been introduced thus far. I think my only worry about turning this into an RP, is it becoming inactive, due to loss of interest, sort of the same fate that could befall this if I write it on my own as well I suppose though. lol. It's already been gathering dust for over a year now. >.> It's really hard to help people make a choice in the matter too, as I can't really reveal all the plot details until I know which choice to go with too. lol.

@ TS: Your feedback means a lot to me too TS, since this story was intended for you to begin with so I would honestly like to keep it as something you'd still find near and dear to your heart. If it does get turned into an RP though, I'd insist that you play at least one or two of the characters. If I do continue it on my own, I will uphold my promise to you and show you every chapter before I end up posting it on here.

No matter what course of action you do with this Fan Fiction KM, I already still hold this very dear to me. Back in the day, I anticipate your next chapter to be done. The fact you brought this up again made me happy inside to tell you the truth. I've read the chapters you already have up countless times, especially during this dreaded weekends we use to share. If you go with the RP idea, I'll be happy enough to participate and I truly hope I can make things appealing for you. ^^ Despite a few changes you may do into this story, I will still hold it very deal to me since I know how much dedication, work and imagination you put into this. It already has a special place in my heart, along with you KM. I just want you to know that. ^^

After reading the story carefully and much consideration I reluctantly had to vote that you finish the story on your own. I say "reluctantly" because I would absolutely love to play a character or two in a RP version of this fanfic, and I'm sure that It would be a blast for everyone involved.

However, I think that opening the story to an RP would lose the flow and direction that is so clear and dominant in this fanfic. So far the story has centered for a very great part around Zanta's point of view. That would be much harder to maintain in a RP format, and the story would likely branch out in several new directions, especially if you decided to allow OCs to participate. Finally, the theme and plots of this RP are quite sophisticated, and I'm not sure that a team (which by it's nature has trouble staying on the same page) would do these things justice.

Having said this, if you do decide to make an RP out of this fanfic, MLK will have gained a newborn RP that I guarantee will go on to do great things, and you could count on me to play one or two characters =)
