I know, it sucks, but unfortunately right now it's that or no new computer and the one I have is malfunctioning majorly. So... I have to learn to deal with it. If it's too bad, I'll just install a different OS I suppose.

Cos even if I wanted a Mac, I can't afford one, and no one sells anything other than those two in these parts.

^ Well, to be fair, Mac's are majorly overrated in terms of hardware, I know for sure.

My dad has a Windows 8 laptop and he hasn't used it once. That's how much he hates it. After trying to set it up for him, I happen to agree. Windows 8 is like Windows Visturd with an arrow to the knee. It wouldn't be too bad if the laptop had an optical drive so that I could put Windows 7 on it, but it doesn't.

This is the dark age of computing, no doubt about it.

^ Fortunately, the one I'm going to buy DOES have an optical drive, so I can put Windows 7 on it if I must.

But I've used a Mac before and it's worse than Windows 8 imo, much much worse, so even if I couldn't install 7, I'd still buy the Windows 8 before touching a Mac.

^ Not without hacking, as far as I'm aware. I suppose you could download an ISO illegally, put it on a thumb drive, and then use a legit code to activate, but that's sorta illegal.

I honestly don't see why people hate on Windows 8 so much - Install Classic Shell and it's basically the same as Win7 interface-wise, and it's more 'fail-safe' than any other edition of Windows I've seen thanks to the built-in recovery function.

Yes, but you have to navigate through the Windows 8 interface to do that. That's nothing short of a major headache, and by that, I'm looking at the optimistic side.

Yeah, Reg is right. I did this for my sister's laptop, and it was still quite annoying.

Most of the 'navigation' you have to do to install Classic Shell is done on the Windows Desktop interface itself, and it takes less than 5 minutes - it's a lot like using IE for the first time just to download Firefox/Chrome - It's really painful for the first couple minutes, but after that, it's all over and you get your easy life back.
