Ooooh! Can I help?
Welcome to [class name], students. This is a
syllabus. It is printed on what we call a
sheet of paper. You may have seen one before, but if this is your first time, that's okay.
For the remainder of the course, you will be expected to use
sheets of paper. In case you didn't know,
sheets is plural for
sheet.
Sheets of paper can be used to store information, through the processes we call
reading and
writing. We will discuss what those terms mean later on in this course.
The color of
sheets of paper is generally
white. The
syllabus is an example of a
white sheet of paper. For higher contrast, the words are written in a color known as
black. It's very dark, and that's why you can see it on the
white sheet of paper. Remember this; it may be on the final exam.
The dimensions of the paper are
8.5 x 11 inches, although the actual size may vary by a few microns. What this means is that the
sheet of paper is
eight and a half inches wide, and
eleven inches tall.
Inches are a unit of measurement, that we use to measure things with.
One inch is equal to roughly
two and a half centimeters. We will not be able to count to
eleven until we've studied chapter three, but I am expecting you to memorize these facts.
Alright, that's enough for today, students. Now that we're prepared to read the
syllabus, tomorrow we will spend another fifty minutes doing just that. Then, we can spend a week talking about our personal lives. Class is dismissed!

Okay, with this being said, I should be reading some stuff for my classes. But, I thought it'd be more fun to pretend to be a professor on the first day of class, just for a few minutes.
Note: this post is merely satire, and is not intended to be taken
too seriously. Sometimes I just get frustrated that the first day of class is a waste of my time, and this is the result.
