Well, I guess they could make the receiver things really high tech and expensive, so that it wouldn't be possible/make sense to try to make one yourself.

The problem with wireless electricity is that it's like listening to the radio: if you're in the area, you can access it. There's no way to control who gets the electricity and who doesn't, so there's no way the owner of the transmitter can make a profit. No profit means no investors, and no investors means the project never gets off the ground.

This is why we can't have nice things.

No, but if you make the thing only available through the power companies/specific to each power grid/company, then maybe it would work?

Well of course not. Though my point being is it possible to make a device that could potentially still give investors and companies what they want, but create a way of wireless ectricity, but then again I do see a point of it not working.

Aww, my boyfriend bought me an early birthday present today. Something i've wanted for so long... A russian blue rat!
