Why all the hate?

Why all the hate?

Postby Luigi Severus » June 30th, 2013, 5:04 pm

Why do some of the TLK fandom hate this movie, yeah, it was a parody of the first movie, but it was funny. In my opinion The Lion King II wasn't as good as the first or third/1.5 one... I loved and enjoyed this movie, I just wish they incorporated a few characters more, rather than just Timon and Pumbaa.

Because a lot of fans are more interested in the lions and their backstories, or they just aren't keen on those characters full stop. Also T&P already got their extra time with the uninspiring cartoon series. And the parody nature somewhat undermines the original with the silly explanations for what ''really'' happened. It still seems a little much for people to hate it. Dislike, maybe, but hate is so strong. My main beef is how unlike the original the non-T&P characters looked and animated. However I thought the film was all right. A little forgettable, but rather funny and entertaining for the while and you can choose to ignore it, anyway, as it was created as a parody rather than a definite this-is-what-happened.

Everyone's got their opinionz... I'm sure there's a decent fanbase for TLK 3.

By it's very nature though it couldn't provoke the same kind of emotional attachments that the first two (especially the first) did with the audience. What with all their drama and darkness and various arghs. They have also garnered quite a nostalgic-y cult movie-of-a-generation kind of status too, so they will always be the more popular. The hard-core fannage of the first two probably wanted and expected a third film to follow the same kind of style, and were maybe disappointed when it didn't.

Gonna be hard to really impress when compared to it's predecessors.

Timon the Great is MLK's biggest TLK 1.5 fan I would say, because of the movie's emphasis on Timon more than any other character.

As for myself, I am not the biggest TLK 1.5 fan. For that matter, I don't enjoy it that much. As a parody, I find that 1.5 undermines just about everything that makes the original Lion King stand out above all other movies, previous and current. I am the kind of guy that will readily complain that the original movie had too much forced humor in some places, so if you compare the humor level in the first movie to 1.5, you get the point.

Plus, if I wanted to watch MST3000 for The Lion King, I would watch their episode for The Lion King, and not a Disney version of one. want to watch a good story, and not the silhouettes of characters discussing the story I'm watching most of the time.

As a huge Timon fan I can honestly say I really enjoyed TLK 1.5 I really enjoyed seeing Timon's back story on how he got kicked out of the meerkat colony, how he became an outcast. Timon really got the recondition he deserves in that film and I think that's what the creators of that film intended. it's just too bad Timon doesn't have more of a following with the traditional TLK fans. oh there's plenty of fan art and fan pages for him, but not nearly enough imo.

It's probably because everyone is more attached to the main characters in the first movie. But in my opinion it is a great movie if you want to have a good laugh.

I will admit I didn't immediately become attached to Timon from the first movie. it was during the time when the T&P show was on tv and he was more in a leading role that I really started to get attached. :)

I'm attached to Timon in any way but I do tolerate him.

For me, it really ruined the first one for me and I'm not a Timon and Pumbaa fan. That's why I didn't really like this film. Though it was interesting to see teen Simba :).
