Should there be another Sequel or two? Or a Prequel?

Should there be another Sequel or two? Or a Prequel?

Anyone else craving for more, fresh, new Lion King stuff? I know I am, I'm just wondering if there should be another sequel... Or not. :fly:

After the 3D release, the never-before seen bloopers and deleted scenes, and the Blu-Ray release of the trilogy, I think Disney has spoiled us LK fans more than enough. It's highly unlikely there will be another Lion King movie since DisneyToon Studios announced it will no longer produce future sequels to Disney theatrical animated films when John Lasseter took over Disney's animation department. I would be nice if there was a sequel or prequel in production, but Disney announced back in March that they are have no plans to release traditional animated films. If this scenario played out, the major question holding over it is: Will it be good or not? It certainly won't be as good as the first film, but Disney Animation Studios has improved the quality of their recent animated features so there is hope they will give it a good story and first-rate production values. The major thing going against a sequel to Simba's Pride is whether Kiara, Kovu, and the new characters having more screentime than the original characters and the possibility of killing off Simba which is a no-no to the fans. The major thing going against a Lion King prequel is the tendency to contradict the original film like Star Wars prequel trilogy. It can happen, but for now, it's an afterthought.

As for new Lion King stuff, have you seen Timon & Pumbaa: Find Out Why animated short series? They're a short animated feature attached to the Blu-Ray release of Simba's Pride according to this website. I don't what that is since I don't have a copy so it's worth checking out. I'm assuming "Timon & Pumbaa's Insectapedia" is essentially a bonus feature game similar to "Timon and Pumbaa's Virtual Safari" on the Blu-Ray copies of The Lion King 1½.

I don't expect much of a continuation of the franchise (expect for new tours of the Broadway musical and more merchandising) until Disney releases The Lion King 7 to 8 years from now when we may get new bonus features that will make it worth buying.

I'm gonna paste in what I posted in the "Future of the Franchise" topic.

I would really like more TLK movies, I just don't think it will happen. John Lasseter has put an end to all Direct to Video sequels from Disney since in his opinion their continuous bad quality undermines the originals (I agree, though less so for the TLK sequels, though as Nostalgia chick says "the badness of a Disney sequel is in inverse proportion to how much you liked the original".)

Anyway, this was what I said:
"If I'm honest, I'm happy with TLK as it is. We got our sequels, and although they're not great, they are vastly superior to other Disney sequels (Imagine Hunchback 2 in Lion King form? :ocwap: ). I'd be concerned any new additions might spoil the balance I have right now.

A lot of people want a Scar-and-Mufasa-childhood-prequel, but I think if we did get that we would all be very disappointed. We the fans would want something very dramatic and gritty, which Disney probably wouldn't give us. Plus, a lot of us have our own ideas/theories about what happened before the first movie, and if the "official" events didn't match the theories that some people may have had since 1994, there would be a lot of uproar, I think."

If they did make one, it would certainly make money, since it's TLK, but I just know modern-day Disney too well and it just wouldn't be up to scratch with the original. And since Disney animation studios has announced that they currently have no plans to do any more traditionally animated films in the future, it would have to be computer animated. I'm fairly certain I've had a nightmare about that before.

No.
The Lion King franchise has had its run, and any new stuff would be redundant.
In other words, all good things must come to an end.

No thanks, there's always a risk of a disaster in sequels and I don't want to see anything like that happen to TLK

That's probably never going to happen, anyway, but we can dream =P .

I'd personally love to see a prequel. Probably Mufasa and Scar's cubhood. I'd very much love to see how they grew to have such a rough relationship and all. And also meeting their parents, their connection with them, blah, blah. And how Mufasa fell in love with Sarabi =D .

Aside from that, I'd also like too see POV's of some background characters. Somewhat like TLK 1.5, but with lions. Probably Sarabi's, or Sarafina's, or maybe even of some totally indifferent lioness. That way we could see more of Scar's reign and more of life in Pride Lands, more of their despair and all...

Also, something like this for TLK2. Life of Outlanders, maybe? Explaining why they hated Pridelanders that much, maybe even putting Zira as a protagonist?

As for sequel, you meant somewhat like Kovu and Kiara's cubs? Can't say I'd like something like that. Of course, as a TLK freak I'd watch it, but it's not like something TLK franchise needs more sequels like this. That's just overused.

If there's not a movie about the hyenas at some point, showing that they DID survive...

...I will literally start World War III.

At first I thought no...

But seeing the news that "It's a Wonderful Life" is getting a sequel, surely a TLK one can't be THAT bad. Plus, Disney loves dollars :D
