[Closed] Pride's Folly

This is an idea for a darker themed RP than many. It takes place in between Simba’s final Roar at the end of TLK and Kopa’s presentation. The Pridelands are mostly recovered from Scar’s reign, and the herds are once again plentiful. There are only a few dark memories of Scar’s time as King. Nala is not yet noticeably pregnant with Kopa, and Zira is still living with the pridelanders.

Simba is doing his best as a new King, but he has a lot of the intolerant characteristics that he displays in TLKII, for example he distrusts rogues and wanderers that come seeking shelter. He treats them as second class citizens with second-class dens, and ensures that his core pride gets to eat first. The Pridelanders accept this as the natural order of things, especially since the situation is still a lot better than the horrors they suffered under Scar’s leadership.

Simba’s discrimination eventually leads the wanderers and newcomers to become very dissatisfied with Simba’s leadership. Zira encourages their mutinous thoughts, and when she feels that they’re ready to confront Simba, she openly takes leadership. Hence the title Pride’s Folly

Shani breathed in deeply, tasting the air that was gusting gently across his path. Even now, with Simba working hard to restore the pridelands to their former glory, it was uncommon to get a taste of such sweet air. It had been several weeks since Shani had visited the pridelands, though he'd kept a low profile so as not to earn Simba's attention or that of his pridelanders. Shani wasn't the biggest lion out there, but he was capable of generating an intimidating presence nonetheless, with angular features and a powerful body.

It always paid to be on the winning side, and making too hasty a move could tie you to the losing team. For this reason Shani had struck out on his own, leaving the burnt and blackened pridelands behind him. He had done his best to find another hospitable home, but Scar's supporters had been methodical in stripping the lands of every speck of life. There was little to be found, certainly not enough to sustain a pride of his own. In low spirits Shani had decided to return to the pridelands and give them another look. From what his nose was telling him now, he'd made a good decision.

Shani mounted a large rocky ledge and finally came into view of the partially restored pridelands. In spite of himself Shani was impressed. Simba had managed to create a virtual oasis in the middle of the desolation where grasses now grew, and trees had begun to grow back their leaves. Shani even saw some prey animals prancing around. Unfortunately they were too close to Pride Rock for him to take them down without anyone noticing, but at this rate the pridelands would be back to their former glory in no time. Shani licked his chops. It would be nice to taste something more substantial than the substandard rodents and sickly animals he'd been living off of. Maybe now it was time to introduce himself to the king of what would clearly be the center of the rebuilt pridelands. Shani set off towards Pride Rock's distant figure at a slow jog.

Sarabi was in the den, resting. She was thinking about everything that happened some weeks ago. She couldn't believe the fact that the cruel king Scar was gone. She couldn't believe that her son was alive. She couldn't believe that grass started to grow in the dry and barren land... So much had happened in so little time. No more hyenas, no more cruel laws and no more violence between Scar and the lionesses. Everything was peaceful, or almost peaceful. She could finally rest in the den instead of hunting all day. Hunting during Scar's reign was like a wild goose chase. No animal was around, but even if there was, Scar and the hyenas would eat all the food, leaving nothing to the pride.

She looked around her. Everyone seemed asleep. Sarabi stood up and quietly walked out of the den, trying not to wake anyone up. She walked to the edge of Pride Rock and look at the kingdom that now belonged to her son. She noticed some more grass had grown on the barren land. She smiled. She couldn't notice something new, but it could also be her eyes. She was old, so she couldn't see good. She stood down, and kept looking at the Pridelands with happiness.

A second lioness was awoken by the early rays of the first glimpses of sunlight. She was a senior member of the pride - around when King Simba was just a cub. Sarafina, Queen Nala's mother, blinked her eyes to get the nightly sand out of her eyes. She smiled. The Pridelanders hadn't slept this close together since the days of Mufasa. The Pride Lands were safe again. Her daughter was the queen! She climbed out of the bundle of lionesses.

She noticed her old friend Sarabi outside and walked out to greet her. "Hi Sarabi." she said, smiling. "Beautiful morning, isn't it?"

[Songo]

The sun’s rays shone down into the small isolated cave and the darkness seemed to disappear around the lone lioness. Amber colored eyes opened as she gazed outside towards the blue sky and could see Sarabi and Sarafina talking in the distance. Zira stirred softly and slowly opened her muzzle letting a small yawn escape; she blinked a few more times. She stood to her paws and stepped towards the entrance of the cave, Scar’s old cave. A frown crossed the lioness’s features as she thought of the passing of Scar on that cold rainy night; she felt her heart sink to her stomach.

She growled to herself as she watched the two lionesses talk and chatter, she moved into the sunlight the ray’s warming her pelt. She gazed down upon the pride lands, they started to regain color and the animals returned to the once bleak wasteland. Zira reclined back to her hinds and her forepaw brushed her fluffy tan chest fur down, her amber eyes still watching the lionesses talk closely.

Sole’ stepped quietly as she left the jungle’s cover, her green eyes taking in this new land before her. The lioness felt the sun beat down upon her ebony pelt and she warmed up quickly, a smile crossing her muzzle. She went from walking to a smooth jog as she traveled through the pride lands, she noticed the rock formation in the distance and assumed some lion must call that their home.

Her tail flickered behind her as she took in the scenery around her, the new grass growing over the dead parts. Her nose scrunched as she smelled the scents of other lions and she slowed down, the rock formation approaching her head on. Her green eyes flickered with excitement because after all it had been sum time since she ran into others.

After the nauseous events of Scar's ruling and his passing, the Pride Lands were beginning to shape up and form to their former glory. Within Pride Rock, Nala was resting peacefully as her slender frame remained a bit motionless. Her lean and attractive physique stirred just a little as she began to wake up from her slumber. Yawning tiredly, Nala glanced over to her loving mate who seemed to be sleeping as well. Life was great at the moment and she hoped things wouldn't get any deleterious around the Pride Lands. Showcasing a loving smile, Nala leaned down to nuzzle her mate affectionately with a few licks across those fuzzy orange cheeks of his. She knew Simba will continue to grow strong and keep these lands free from any harmful rogue lions that may try to intervene.

"You better wake up soon sweetie, the sun is already getting high in the skies." Nala said ardently, lowering her haunches down to the ground in a erect manner. It seemed everyone else was waking up during this hour too as Nala observed their cozy den.

Chuki was running back to Pride Rock after a long nighttime stroll. She loved the cool, fresh air, and the sounds of all the nighttime creatures. Every now and then she'd find sleeping a group of animals sleeping together, and though she would have liked to catch one to bring home and eat, she left them alone and just watched happily before moving on. It wouldn't do at all to break Simba's carefully thought out plan for the pridelands. He'd made it very clear to everyone that all the animals were crucial if the pridelands were to have a future, so only the hunting party was supposed to take food for the pride. Simba always sure that there was enough food for everyone, but sometimes it was a close thing.

Chuki finally reached the base of Pride Rock just as the earliest rays of morning sunlight were shining down on it. She took a moment to calm her breathing and settle herself down before she started to climb. The last thing she wanted was for someone to think she'd been out sneaking late night snacks. Unfortunately, for all her bubbly energy, Chuka had been badly marked by her time under Scar's rule. There wasn't any place for bubbly cheerfullness until Simba returned, and she still had trouble believing that it was all over... especially when she saw Zira's harsh face. Chuki had been born at the beginning of Scar's reign and was still a young lioness today.

She pranced up Pride Rock on tiptoes, hoping to sneak into the den, but groaned aloud as she saw three lionesses already enjoying the morning sun. She could only hope that they would assume the best, and not the worst.

Sarabi kept looking at the sun, until she heard a voice. She turned behind to see who was talking to her. She saw a cream furred lioness. It was Sarafina, her old friend. Hello Sarafina. Indeed it is. Especially now that our children are king and queen. No more of Scar's tyranny. The sun shines brighter than ever now. She smiled to her, and then she turned back to the sun. Looking at the sun looked like a miracle to her after Scar's reign of darkness, death and hate. There was a new hope for a reign of peace since her son came back.

She turned back again as she heard someone groaning. She suddenly saw Chuki trying to sneak out to the den. Chuki, what are you doing? Don't tell me you when out all night! she shouted at her.

Suddenly, a black furred lioness walked out of the den. It was Kura, a member of Simba's pride. Sarabi's shoutting had woken her up, so she walked out of the den to see what's happening. She saw four lionesses being outside, talking. Hello. What's wrong, why the shouting? You woke me up! she complained, seeking for an explanation. She didn't like being woken up, especially during Scar's reign. She needed more rest because Scar had her hunting nonstop. She waited for an answer.

[Songo]

Zira’s amber eyes watched Sarabi yell at Chuki and she shook her head, Zira proceeded to step between the lioness and Chuki smoothly. “Dear Sarabi, I sent Chuki out to check out the watering hole for me.” Zira confessed slightly with a smirk. She reclined to her hinds by Chuki and nodded towards Chuki, “Well..? How is the water looking down in the watering hole?” she mused. Her tail flickering slightly be her side Zira’s eyes narrowed at Sarafina and the other waking lioness, her heart seemed to ache in secret sadness.

Sole’ stepped lightly through the tall grass and her pace slowed down as she approached the rock. She took notice to the animal herds entering the land and she stopped when she noticed some antelope. She licked her muzzle lightly and her green eyes followed the pieces of fresh meat, she crept low in the grass towards them.

She paused for a moment when the wind shifted past her and she smelled the scents once more, “Oh yeah..I should wait to eat..” she said out loud grumbling to herself. She stood back up out of the tall grass and in better sight of the antelope as they saw her and started to run, she turned her back and kept moving towards pride rock.

Chuki froze with one paw inside the den. Rats! That was close. Called out by Sarabi she walked over with her head slightly downcast. She'd been about to answer that she'd just been on an early morning stroll, no harm done, when she was startled again by a voice behind her. This time it was Kura, and Chuki was quickly on her guard, almost like a deer in the headlights. Chuki knew that there had been problems between Kura's parents and the pridelanders, though she'd been much to young to see it first hand. Still, Kura always made her slightly nervous, especially at times like these when she was the focus of attention.

While Chuki was thinking how to react, Zira unexpectedly slid in with characteristic authority and smooth speech. Chuki dove unashamedly to the lifeline offered to her and clung to it for all she was worth. "Yes, I was just sent on an errend." Chuki's usually clear and bell-like voice was slightly breathless and erratic. "The waterhole, umm... It's very cold and clear this morning, or it was when I was down there, of cours the sun's coming out a little so now it might be different so..."

Chuki ran out of words and fell silent, aware that she''d been babbling a little bit.
