That night Tala's mother appeared to Bandarick in a dream and told him, "Bandarick, listen to me. I know you want Dan to leave, but you must understand, higher powers have ordered that Dan face punishment for the bad things he's done. Let him stay in your pack with my daughter for a few more days. I promise that no harm will come to your pack as long as he stays. But Dan must understand his wrongdoing." Meanwhile Dan was suddenly having a dream himself about being in his human form and shooting Tala's mother, before the wolf looked at him curiously and said, "Did you think your action would go unpunished?"

Suddenly Dan appeared in his wolf form before his father aimed at him and fired, shooting him. Dan suddenly woke up screaming, waking up all of the members of the wolf pack, besides Tala. "AH! AH! AH! AH! AH! AH!" he kept screaming over and over again. He suddenly woke up as one of the wolves shook him awake and coughed nervously, "Sorry, bad dream." He suddenly walked away from them and went over to Tala who kept whimpering the sound, "Mother..." This made Dan extremely angry as her mother had gotten him into this mess and he started shaking her awake before he started to yell at her, "Don't you ever mention your mother again! 'Mother! Mother! Mother!' What has your mother ever done for me huh? Trust me if I'd have seen your mother ag... I mean I would have strangled her for what she's done to me!"

He suddenly reclined back to his haunches and huffed and said, "You think your mother gives a crap about you huh? Why has she made your life so miserable and let me go with you huh? Your mother never cared for you! Your mother was annoyed with your jabbering mouth as well!"

Tala stared at Dan in shock, her small jowls hanging open. After her eyes remained locked on his face for several moments, she frowned. "What should my mother have done for you? She never knew you and vice versa!" She exhaled sharply and glared at him, yellow eyes burning angrily. "My mother loved me! You know why? Because we were family! Because we are all family! Because we are wolves and we stand by each-other.

"Now you must not be canine in the least to snap at me when you are the one who has practically murdered one of our own. You've undone everything you have done.-" she sighed and and scuffed a white paw across the dusty ground "-Now I've tried to see eye to eye with you and be kind and hold my tongue and bear it. Now you snap at me and say mean things about my mother. You-you-you ought to be ashamed of yourself!" With a small, frustrated cry she stuck her tongue out at him and march away, fluffy tail waving proudly.

Dan instantly regretted what he said and marched after Tala and tried to plead with her, "Tala I'm sorry for saying all of that, I just...I feel frustrated for the situation that I'm in! You don't know what it's like to be me! I want my old life back! I didn't even do anything wrong to be put in this situation! I've seen your mother in my dreams! She's the one who's put me here and made me stay...as this!" He sighed though as she ignored him and continued to walk away.

He then laid down for a few minutes and sighed. He just couldn't do what all of these dreams were telling him. Tala would have a good life so there was no reason for him to still be a wolf. He quickly sighed and walked over to Bandarick who was also awake and said to him, "Listen to me, nobody likes me in this pack or wants me. Let me just trouble all of you no longer and let me leave." He reclined back to his haunches and waited for Bandarick to say yes, bracing himself to continue on his own and turn back into a human.

Dan's words fell upon stone ears. Tala ignored them, staring out at the woods in faux oblivion. She heaved a relieved sigh as he left then stared up at the crescent moon where Artemis was said to keep the souls of deceased wolves. "Why?" she whispered softly. "Why does this world hate me so much?!"

Bandarick gave Dan an unimpressed glance. "No." When the adolescent gave him a surprised look, he continued," You aren't going to run away. You're going to stay here and make up for what wrongs you've done to this pack. Now, bed down with the other wolves your age and if they give you a hard time-tell me." With that he strode off.

Dan instantly sighed and yelled after Bandarick, "But I didn't do anything wrong!" He again sighed and went to the other adolescent wolves before he noticed them glaring at him. He ignored them and looked at Ulf's friends, "Is there something you'd like to say to me huh? It wasn't my fault Ulf got shot! In fact you know what, it was your friend's fault since he just stood there and got shot like an idiot!" Suddenly before he could say anything else however Dan accidently tripped over a branch and fell on the ground with dirt in his mouth, all in front of the adolescent wolves.

Meanwhile as Tala began to dream her mother appeared and said to her, "Tala my sweet girl listen to me. Do you remember the lesson I taught you? We must show compassion and forgiveness to others who deserve it. And you are going to have to show all the compassion and forgiveness you can to Dan when this is all over. Dan is being punished for his wrongdoing."

Bandarick rolled his eyes and ignored his protests. The boys, however, did not ignore Dan as he so gracefully face-planted. They laughed mercilessly at him, rolling on the ground and almost crying. They eventually forced themselves onto their paws. "If only your mouth had been as wide as when you were talking!" one mocked. "Then you would've swallowed your weight of earth!"

The others lapsed again, laughing. A adolescent girl wolf stalked up from behind them. She dropped her white tail so that it touched the ground and her ice blue eyes flashed with anger. "My brother is dying! And you find time to laugh at a wolf's stupidity!" She turned to Dan. "And my brother was standing there for a reason! To protect his subjects, his pack, his family! If you hadn't drawn the hunter to us, he wouldn't be lying on the snow bleeding and breathing what any second could be his last breath! You did something very wrong, but the biggest wrong you've done is not see that."

She gave him a mournful, almost pitying look and padded away, trying not to break down and cry. She was the faughter of an Alpha, she needed to be strong. And also not wonder why her father didn't shred the foreigner.

"I don't want to!" Tala protested in a whiny tone, feeling as if the unfairness and hurt of the day had earned her the rught to act her young age. "I want him to be shot and skinned and mounted on the wall of the people-who-he-thinks-are-so-great's wall!"

She sighed after a moment, realizing she didn't want that to happen to anyone. "He doesn't want my help or compassion. He wants me to go away and he wants to go throw a pity party," she whined, using an expression she'd heard the Alpha wolfess use. "And I don't want to guve my help or compassion to him. I want him to be punished! and I want him to be miserable, because that's what he deserves-not forgiveness!"

Dan was surprised when this adolescent female wolf reprimanded him and sighed. It just seemed that nobody would let him forget that incident would they? He suddenly looked over at the other adolescent males still there and simply shook his head at their joking. Well it wasn't like he didn't go through that before with human boys and he knew how to deal with it as well!

He looked at the adolescent female wolf in awe for a moment before looking away from her. He then said to the others, "Hey listen to me! I didn't lure the hunter anywhere! He was following me because he thought I killed his son!" He sighed again and said, "Look I'm not from around here alright. I don't know how a wolf survives in the wild. I don't know anything about avoiding hunters or being quiet." He then glared at them and said, "But if you want to go ahead and laugh at my clumsiness go right ahead. The first wolf who laughs at me again I'll knock their teeth out." He then sighed and continued to stand there. He felt like he was in a foreign land, and wanted to be human again so much it was killing him.

He then walked away and followed the adolescent female and cautiously approached as his wounded paw was still killing him, "So it seems your father can fight huh?"

As Tala said that her mother said, "Well if that is what you wish so be it. Dan will continue to be punished." She looked at her daughter again and paused.

"Tala, that young human boy who killed me, could you show him forgiveness, could you be as kind to him as you've been to Dan so far?"

The snowy wolf gave Dan a hard look. "Only the truly blind have eyes and do not see, only the truly deaf have ears and do not hear, only the truly retarded have understanding and do not understand." She peered down her fine, tapering nose at him.

"Do you know what that means?" she asked rhetorically. "It means you are blind. Not only are you blind, but you're deaf and ignorant, and, even worse, your are selfish and unkind!" She shook her head, displaying her great sorrow at his behavior and trained her icy eyes on his furry face, daring him to argue or protest.

"Una, give him a break, he didn't mean to-" a wolf began.

Una cut him off sharply. "Silence! Whether we mean to or not, we do, and we must take responsibility for our mistakes. For others are affected, not just ourselves!"

"I-I don't know," Tala said slowly. "Perhaps. I'd have to know him, see him as he is, even and balanced with me. I should be able to answer decidedly and, furthermore, with a "Yes!", but...something's are hard to forgive."

She sighed and curled up, resting her little black velvet nose on her tail.

Dan simply paused for a minute as she went into this long speech and after she was over with it Dan told her, "You know you could have simply said yes or no to my question." He then paused for a second as he looked down.

"Now listen I know you lost your brother and all but I didn't know the hunter was just going to pop out of the woods just like that. I have tried to make up for this fault by saving Tala's life and trying to be nice to her and make sure she lives." He then looked at her and said, "Please try to understand me I didn't mean anyone any harm."

He quickly sighed and looked away, "I tried to leave but your father won't let me."

He then perked his ears up and asked her, "So uh, Una right, are you doing anything tonight?"

Tala's mother curled up next to her daughter in her dream, "Tala I'll always be with you to watch over you. Now listen to me Tala. Dan will be punished because that hunter will find him and try to kill him again. Tala this will be dufficult for you, since you must help Dan find compassion in himself to look after you." She paused again.

"Tala when you are lonely and ever need direction look towards the moon in the sky and I will make sure to always be there." Suddenly the dream ended for Tala.
