I don't remember who said it (and I may be misremembering it, so don't quote me on it), but I recall hearing someone say that lions have longer spines than other cats, but their manes make male lions' spines seem shorter than they really are. I suppose the SP animators made Simba's spine a little too short.

Poor Simba, I don’t think he looks fat at all.

Same here o.O He is bigger no doubt, but that doesn't always mean fatter, he's much older in TLK2 for one thing.
