Vitani sure is an interesting character. I remember, as a 12-year old, I saw SP for the first time, and after seeing it, I couldn´t decide whether Vitani was evil or not. She sure remains loyal to her mothers insane ideals, puts those even above her own luck. But, as cubs, you see Vitani and Kovu have a good bond. For me it was also pretty hard to understand the bond between Vitani and her older brother Nuka. She seems annoyed by his appereance, but she tolerates him around her at the same time.
What do you guys think about Vitani? What was her role in the movie? I mean, it´s great to have as much lion characters as possible in the movie (that´s one of the things I loved most about SP, the introduction of 5 new lions and lionesses) but wat was her ´function´ in this movie? What did the makers of SP want her to depict?

Oh, and btw, I love her design, I used to think she was a boy when she was a cub, but I realized she was a lioness when I saw her appeareance as an adult

she has a bigger role than many notice. Vitani seemed to be Zira's top fighter, as Zira gave her the order to attack when Kovu and Kiara tried to stop the war. her role in Zira's plan was to spy on the Pridelanders (the cut scene "Another Cub" and after "Upendi") as well as join in the fighting and help Kovu. in one book it says under Zira's plan Nuka and Vitani were to protect Kovu.

in the movie overall, she was the biggest reason the Outlanders betrayed Zira and joined the Pridelanders. it wasn't until she took a stand and said Kiara was right that they started to consider it. and when Zira said Vitani would die too for joining with them, they immediately scoffed and left Zira. evidently she had gained a large deal of respect from her pridemates, perhaps she was more of the reason they went along with Zira's plans after awhile. if she didn't take that stand in that scene, Zira would've likely won the war.
