Timon's Song

Postby Timon the great » March 4th, 2013, 8:28 am

So what do you guys say to his song, That's All I Need ?
____________________________________________________________

As you might have guessed already, I love it because it was made just for him. Not only that. It really allows this meerkat to breathe completely on his own, and express himself in ways, that were not possible to see from him in the previous TLK movies.

I do know about and have listened to its sister song, Warthog Rhapsody of TLK 1. But eh. TAIN is much better (in general) to me.

I have to say that this song is one of the few good moments of The Lion Kin 1.5/3. While most of the movie is rather... bad, this song is quite good.

As it should be, considering that the original version of the song was written during the first movie's production. "That's All I Need" is a rewritten version of "Warthog Rhapsody" - the song that was considered before it was scrapped in favor of Hakuna Matata. While the lyrics are completely different, these things have not changed: the tune, and the fact that Timon sings it.

So in the end, I love this song, although to be honest, I think I'll stick with "Warthog Rhapsody".

I love that they dusted off Warthog Rhapsody and reinvented it to finally see the light of film, it's just one more reason I think TLK 3 was much more "in the know"/soul-connected to it's original source material than SP.

The animation on the hyenas makes me cringe a little, but such is life :p

I voted "In general, it's a good LK song". I can pretty much memorize this whole song, and I love the upbeat tempo feel to it.

My only problem with it is that this song is pretty much an "I want" song. TV Tropes did a whole article dedicated to this story device. It's kind of amazing how animated Disney films are synonymous with this when you click on the tab, "Film - Animation". I still do like these songs for the purpose of character development, though the Disney filmmakers can overuse the story device at times.

It's an all right sequence but not too memorable - can't even remember much of it without watching the clip. Having said that, it's good for him to finally get his moment in that way.

^That's a very good thing for him. I always wish more time would have been used to put more new ideas of Timon's self like this, into the film. After all, TLK 3 is about Timon, himself.

I can never stop laughing though, at what he does when he sings that line: "I've always been good at runnin' away...". That's original. Image

This song is just one other thing that adds depth to this meerkat. Which of course, was definitely needed in this TLK film.

I like it, it explains his dreams and is very catchy. I don't think it's a masterpiece but It's a song worth listening to.

The main task of art to convey to people a certain idea. And I believe that this song is to cope with this task. It reflects the dream of a Timon about better carefree life for themselves and for others. But the dream is broken on the rocks of the harsh reality. That's how the song ends, it rudely interrupted hyenas. Maybe the word is not so easy to remember at once, but the mood is transmitted immediately.
This song is not without humor (albeit small).
Finally, this song is a beautiful arrangement. I believe that in the song are important not only words.
