Les Miserables

Yeah musical films rarely win Best Picture. The last was Chicago in 2002, before that it was Oliver! in 1968.

The winners of the big awards seem to be pretty much the same as at the BAFTAs a few weeks ago. It was quite nice that no one movie dominated the ceremonies. A lot of movies won awards and Les Mis did great to scoop three.

Yeah, I was disappointed that Hugh Jackman didn't win either. And also disappointed that Les Miserables didn't win Best Picture. I don't care how awesome Argo is, in Les Mis they brought a story to life which made you feel like you were right there with the characters. Les Miserables had amazing actors who had to step out of their comfort zone and SING! And not only sing, but sing live on set! I mean, come on! That deserves a freaking award. But then again, I guess more people are into drama things than musicals, so... yeah. I figured Argo would take it, but I was hoping against hope that Les Mis would win anyway.

You have to remember that it's a panel of industry experts rather than the public who decide the winners. If it was a public vote Les Mis would have won Best Picture. They did a poll on Digital Spy for people to vote for the movie they wanted to win Best Picture and Les Mis won with 46%. Argo was second with 14%.

Exactly. And I often suspect that these experts are rather subjective in their voting as well.

Ah, I see. Well, at least that makes me feel better. But with how amazing Les Miserables is, I can't imagine Argo being any better but oh well.

^I didn't think Argo was all that great to begin with.

I knew Anne Hathway was going to win the Oscar, and I think her acceptance speech was the best of the entire show! I also loved that she stated that she hoped Fantine's story will always be seen more in cinema than in real life. Beautiful, and I wish that could happen!

That last part of her speech really got to me. Such a beautiful thing to say, and you could tell that she meant it. Bless <3

I'm soooo behind, I FINALLY saw it! It depressed me after the first five minutes of it being done, but I slept on it and woke up LOVING it! I was surprised at how good Russell Crow's voice was, idk why I was-i guess he didn't strike me as the type who could sing. Eponine was my favorite character and thus the Marius and Cosette were ruined for me, I also loved the kid, Fantine, and Valjean!
Amazing movie, though, 10/10!!!
(It was rather awkward watching it with my parents...it would've been better by myself...ya know, without the comments...)
