If Timon Stayed Longer in his Meerkat Colony

If Timon Stayed Longer in his Meerkat Colony

Postby Timon the great » January 17th, 2013, 7:39 am

To start off, I don't think it would've been that bad if he stayed a while longer than the film showed, but eventually, it might've yield some messy results down the line.

But, since the movie shows that Timon's mother and uncle look over the colony, it'd only make sense that after they passed on, Timon would be next in line to look after the colony. This is also backed up in the deleted scene where his father tells him:
"Timon. Timon. THIS is our home, and I'm proud of those tunnels. Your mother and I dig those tunnels to keep you safe! We dig those tunnels because we love you".

I do understand though, that the original plot to this was that Timon wanted to move away from "digging tunnels", and live a better life in which he, his family, and colony, do by the end of the film.

I think Timon would have been mutually forced out of the colonies sooner or later. After all, remember the scene where Timon single-handedly destroyed an entire section of tunnels. And based on the other's reaction, it wasn't the first time it happened.

And then there was his ability to be a good sentry, or rather, a lack of it.

There's being useless, and then there's being flat out dangerous. For the safety of the colony, I think Timon would have had to go, no matter who was in charge.

Based on the scene in which Timon destroyed the tunnel when the meerkats are singing "Digga Tunnah", it's implied that this isn't the first time Timon destroyed a tunnel. So, he was staying longer with his colony as possible. Plus, he is incredibly unpopular with his meerkat peers, and if his wrecking of the colony continued, it was only a matter of time before he either had to be forced to leave or be kicked out.

Interestingly, in the deleted scene in which Timon sings his solo verse of "Hakuna Matata", he is clearly been seen kicked out of the colony:
