the silhouettes in the cinema

I hated it, ruined the feel of TLK, was too childish and made it less enjoyable to an older audience where the previous two are great for any age.
would be 100% better without them. Ruined great moments of the tale and was clearly terrible filler to waste time.
rest of the movie is intresting and fun though.

I totally agree here with the post above by morning-star.

The movie could have done better without them. It seems to me, that this was another thing that was added closer to the end of the film's production. And the part where all the Disney characters coming in at the end was just Disney itself telling the LK 1.5 creators, to "Do It!". It really felt like that, which was a bad idea.

One thing's clear though, if the silhouettes were never added, then more time would've been given to elaborating on Timon's life. Especially in the beginning, when he was Actually younger. Because this is what the deleted scenes mostly show.

Guys, there was this show called Mystery Science Theater 3000 that was very popular in the 90's (1988-1999) that was the silouettes of 3 alien puppets in a dark theater making fun of & commentating on horrible old movies.

Once again, it's a cultural, this time a pop culture, reference. And since TLK 3 was geared as much to nostalgic original 90s viewers as to its target age market in 2004, the reference was understood.

Just as it was always understood by thousands at the time that yes, the hyena march in TLK *was* intentionally modelled after the Nazis, and this was immediately apparent to viewers. The Holocaust was present in everyone's minds at the time, the blockbuster movie Schindler's List had just been released the year before and Anne Frank's unedited diary before that in 1991.

TLK3 suffers a lot from this, and a lot gets lost in translation. You guys all hate on TLK 3 like it's an insult to the franchise, the real insult is SP, a cheap movie that takes itself way too seriously. To the person who grew up in the 10 years between TLK in 1994 and TLK 3 in 2004, (those *first* 10 years of growing up mind you, and they're the biggest ones,) who was (an older) part of the original target audience of the original film, it's understood that TLK 3 is meant to be an affectionate and heartfelt romp back through the movie with writers that realized there was no improving on the original cultural phenomenon of TLK, with some simpler gags for the 2004 target age market mixed in.

I don't get the RAEG at TLK 3 and think the real travesty is people who don't have the TLK experience not understanding it for what it really is and taking it way too seriously because they lack that experiental insight.

Not everything goofy is a mockery.

^ You make some excellent points. However, in my opinion, none of the movies are an insult to the franchise. And TV show reference or no, the silhouettes do annoy me to a degree. They don't ruin the movie, and they're only slightly annoying, but I wish they would have added in more story and less silhouettes-at-the-cinema scenes. They were amusing, but I think they were a little overused.

Yeah, it's a reference to Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Another thing I want to add is that during the "Hakuna Matata" sequence, Timon prevents Pumbaa from revealing his *you know what* by breaking the fourth wall saying, "Pumbaa, not in front of the kids!" So, (at least) Timon knows they are being watched as if they were in a movie. So, Timon referencing the audience before showing the movie makes somewhat sense since he done it before in the original film.

It's a PARODY film so I accept the cinema addition and all that. It's supposed to be so much different to the other two. :)

I did research a while back that the silhouette scenes were referenced from the MST3000 thing. But just because a new idea like this (especially being a pop culture reference) is put into a good movie like TLK 1 1/2, doesn't always mean it will make it better than without it. The gag was somewhat overused.

Just as the film's ending (with all the Disney characters coming in), shows. This is the only big problem I had with this idea as Disney itself (in some way, and not the creators), forced it in there. Most likely just for the kids in that part. But still.

I'd have to agree on the lack of realism with Timon and Pumbaa in the theater. But I would've definitely wanted, as Julie Skywalker mentioned, more live story (of you know who, of course Image), because this TLK film seriously wasn't just a parody.

Honestly, I don't hate the silhouettes, and I find them okay with the LK characters. But as I've mentioned in this topic already, they do hurt some of the real feel of this movie that also comes from the original. And the film would have definitely gone better without them or in some way where they are blended into the film better.

Yet, as far as I'm concerned out of all of this, TLK 1.5 officially begins and finishes from here, to here.

There are actually several parts in this film (outside of the silhouettes) that show Him interacting with us, like in this part where he says: "Planned it so it would look that way!". I might add links to a couple more screens showing this from the film later. But I really like these interactions though. And more work on something like this would've been much more enjoyable for me than the silhouettes, because it really helps to bring Timon out from this film instead of him being only, "in it", to say. Basically, what I mean is he's taking us (the audience) with him along the way on his journey here. Image

Agreed, and just being harmlessly funny, for that matter.
