A question to prevent spammers

Hi! Welcome to the Feedback forum.
Before reading anything or asking anything; please check out the FAQs. Your question might be in there. However if you want a better understanding after reading the FAQs, like if it didn't explain it good enough, then by all means ask your question.

Please read the following before posting in this forum...

In this forum you will see an Announcement, and several "sticky" topics. The announcement is the Universal Board Rules. If you are new, read this before doing anything else! The sticky topics will stay above and separated from normal user-made topics in the forum. This is because they outline important information about the board. If you see a sticky topic concerning your issue, please reply with your question or concern in the correct topic. Moderators will see your reply within these topics. Before asking your question, be sure to read the topic and its first page especially. It contains information about your issue that is valuable and may even answer your questions. If the topic does not answer your question, ask your question within the topic, not the forum. If no sticky topic concerns your issue, then you are welcome to ask your own questions by creating a new topic within the forum.

Thank you for keeping the Board Help forum organized!

A question to prevent spammers

Postby KopsTheTerminator » October 20th, 2009, 11:51 am

I've seen some users who registered only to advertise something such as WoW gold. Well, I believe this will prevent some spammers:

A TLK related question. And to make it more unlikely for advertisers to join, a question about a minor characters such as Zazu.

I believe this will prevents spammers and advertisers. What does everyone think?

All the spammers have been deleted, so they can't be seen.

well, some people are joining to upload art on MLKFAA. so far most of our FAA artists are familiar with TLK, but some people just merely like drawing the characters or drawing in that style. heck, there are some out there that just drawn their original characters that fit into the TLK realm. so they might not know enough about the movies to answer the question.

besides, there's not really too big a problem with spammers. they get deleted pretty fast.

It's a good idea, but they could just go search for answers online. So it would have to be a timed quiz.

There are several anti-spambot methods out there including the obvious question/obvious answer that you suggested. The spammers are not humans by the way, they are programs that know how to register and post in a phpBB forum. The new version of phpBB will provide new ways to stop spammers. I want to see if the new way is good enough, or if we have to install some kind of anti-spambot utility :confident:

well unless you got some idiot creating account and spamming the crap out of the forums....
like ksfmswfkijwetj40934t in posts and trolls making abusive comments in other post well trolls tend to spam up the forum then they find out to hack into your database and sent nasty viruses
to your computer and stuff it up.....

i got hacked before and he sent a virus to my computer it screwed it up.
