Massive School Shooting at an Elementary School

I read this shooting on Facebook and it broke my heart, I don't understand why people do that.. no matter what state they are in. It's like they don't have a heart at all. Maybe they don't. These children would of had an amazing future ahead of them and then it's suddenly ripped away from them. It's ruined so many families and lives, such a waste of human life. I hope they rest in peace, and I hope the families are okay too. :C <333

I heard about this. It's just messed up. But there are some things that will restore your faith in humanity.

These killings plain and simple are tantrums. Temper tantrums of self-absorbed suicidal people throwing fits who think *their* anger is more important than other peoples lives and feel so righteous and over-inflatedly self-important to take other people out with them either for their misery, their ego to make news, or their "cause" (thinking of the Norway camp shooter from last year).

DGFone, the shooters mother wasn't at the school. He killed her at home, then continued on to the school. It's even doubtful if she worked at Sandy Hook School at all, other teachers are reporting to not be familiar with her.

I don't know that gun control is the answer to "solving" this trend. It wouldn't have made a difference in this case, the guns were legally owned by his mother who wasn't the one with the problem. It's root is cultural/social phenomenon to be sure, probably the result of several factors.

Abhorent is the word that comes to mind, but even that doesn't cut it. Everything is magic in Kindergarten, I'm just sick.

I hope this doesn't come across as insensitive but a few weeks ago, I was talking to a teacher about how I am planning to get certified. We started talking about how certain areas were not desirable because of the high crime rate. Then, you hear about school shootings that take place in supposedly 'safe' areas.

TBH, I personally don't think that the children were the targets. I think the shooter had something against his mother, and if he was already going to her school to kill her, might as well shoot some kids as well before the police arrive. Sounds sick, I know, but I won't be surprised if that's what it will end up being as what happened.

It's actually sounding like now that the mother was shot in her home, then he went to the school and shot her class. How horrific.

Luckily there are also civilised and humane people over there. At least Barack Obama shed a tear while giving a speech.

Well, it's not just former governor Mike Huckabee who is politicizing the tragic shooting, but Hollywood celebrities as well. However, Dan Shepard's comment feels honest, but it wouldn't have prevented this.

May I ask how many of them and have Hollywood friends that contribute to the increasing rate of violence in Hollywood movies? For example, the Columbine shooters and James Holmes of the Aurora theater shooting were influenced by Hollywood movies such as Natural Born Killers and the recent Batman movies.

Not to mention, they have bodyguards that are heavily armed to protect them.

I am going to polarize people by saying this and I do believe with all my being that this is not so much as a gun issue but a mental health issue. Even if you make strict rules and legislate, people will somehow get guns. Look at Prohibition and alcohol.

I completely agree with you. So people are now saying that the mother was shot at her home and not at school, alright, but the guy was still clearly nuts. It's what I said before:

It's not the quality of the gun that kills people, but the quality (or in this case, a lack of) of the person holding the gun.

^The thing is, mentall illness is such a sensitive subject. If something is wrong with someone, we are the bad guys for seeing/knowing that person as being 'wrong'. In this case, as well as Aurora, Littleton, Virginia Tech, some people cannot be cured. Honestly, I am kind of fed up with the whole 'pray for the families' bit. I can have sympathy and I also believe that getting rid of guns won't solve all the problems. As I said, I wouldn't own a gun personally but I won't tread on someone else's garden if they choose to. I would still feel uncomfortable. Then again, DGFone, I remember when the LA Riots happened so........

It is not impossible to have sensible gun control and regulation while maintaining the rights of a certified, trained citizen to possess a weapon. However, groups like the NRA have such a chokehold on our politicians that we can't even have a civil conversation and come to a sensible conclusion. So as far as placing blame, I might honestly look not at the gun, or at the person. I look at the organizations and people that suppress conversations and actions that might save lives simply to pursue their deluded interests.

Maybe America will be ready to have a conversation this time. Best wishes to the families and victims.
