Heylo.
I have been a Lion King fan from day one.
I was 7 years old heading towards 8 when it came out, and I swear everyone I knew took me to see it in the theater except my dad(not a kids movie guy, not even for his kid). The most special time was with one of my uncle's who became a diehard Scar fandude. Ever since I have been calling him Uncle Scar and he me Shenzi. That is the reason for the first part of my name, and why The Lion King will always hold a special place in my heart. The names lasted for years, up until recently. Sadly we haven't used them for a while now. He'll always be my uncle scar though.
Last night I was on youtube when I came across a video telling a story of the character Kopa, son of Simba and Nala. Intrigued by the character and how so many people could not have made up the same one I googled 'The Lion King: Kopa' and found out about this mini series of books he appeared in and looked into it's authenticity.
According to this page: http://www.mylionking.com/wiki/Kopa
You'll see at the bottom there is a tid bit explaining that the cub in the ending ceremony in the original film had not been officially named but the film makers nicknamed it fluffy.
http://www.mylionking.com/wiki/fluffy
Here is the complete page explaining more about 'fluffy' and how it was never intended as an official character and thus there was not even a gender chosen for it. However when the second film went into production a shot of 'fluffy' was used in an official trailer as Kiara. So contrary to popular belief, they did try to incorporate the first cub into the Kiara character once she was created, but before that it was nobody, it's not a separate cub. So it was not meant to be Kopa.
Obviously Kopa was created AFTER the first film since no since story or characters existed to work with until then. On the Lion King wiki page for the book series 'Six New Adventures' it says this: "The books were denied by the film makers in 1995 and 2003 on the commentary track of the film."
It also states that the series was written with the Disney company's permission, not actually by Disney.
So Kopa is not an official character of the franchise and was not even created by Disney. So his series is not canon. I however loved the popular fanfic about his death by Zira which is why the second part of my name as well as my signature is dedicated to him. I love how it does happen to fit many aspects of the second film such as Simba's over protectiveness of Kiara.
It is Kopa's tragic fan story that has slowly begun to bring me back to the Lion King. I even did a little revamping with my fanart.lionking.org page which I literally haven't been to in years as well as used it to save my art to my flash drive. The site became the only place I had any of my Lion King drawings anymore, I ripped them out of the original sketch book they were drawn in and I think threw them out, some anyway. So I am lucky they don't take pages down for inactivity or I'd have lost them forever.
A few words about myself now I suppose is in order. I am almost 26 (three days) looking to try to get into graphic design as I already have skill in photoshop but need to study more to be able to qualify for the field. So I will search for classes in my community college to begin my certificate. I am already graduated with a degree in Liberal Arts.
I also enjoy writing stories. I hope to publish novels someday. I have one started and a friend of an Uncle's(not Uncle Scar, another. I have five lol) to help me attempt to publish it.
I also enjoy vampires, werewolves stuff like that. Yes I am a Twilight fan, but also am quite addicted to a newer series on syfy called Being Human. I have also been getting into The Vampire Diaries, True Blood and Angel. I stopped Angel for now so I can go back and Buffy up(yeah watched Angel without seeing Buffy, big mistake as I quickly realized, lots of references) which I hope to do soon.
I was glad to see that this forum actually still has activity despite the Lion King being a very old franchise now. I hope to be able to contribute around here.
