The Storm [Anthro Literature]

I'm honestly not positive where this is going to go, but I had an idea and I will develop it.

I. The crack of thunder woke him up, as his alarm hadn't. Awali glanced at the clock; 6:30am. It took him a second to realize he was almost an hour late. As he jumped out of bed, he fell into a raging storm. Falling, he could see the glistening ice crystals in the clouds, not yet water at this altitude. He should be freezing, but he was perfectly warm.

Naked, but warm, slowly falling towards the ground. Layers and layers of the gray puffs passed him as he descended, almost never ending.

There was a flash of lightning in the corner of his eye, and he was riding his bike on the sidewalk; still raining. Before he could get his bearings, the lion swerved into the street, getting hit by a car almost instantaneously.

II. Awali was woken up by the alarm, again. Sweating, heart pounding, he got out of bed. "Another one of those dreams," he thought to himself. Nakala, his loving mate, came up behind him for a surprise hug as he was drying his hair before work. "Morning," they both said simultaneously.

He was still quite nervous after his dream. He always was. But this time something was different, something changed. It was major.

"..there? Awali?"

He woke up to Nakala's frantic shaking. "You wouldn't wake up. I've been sitting here shaking you for 5 minutes, thinking you've been playing a trick on me, a silly game." Awali, still in the firm grip of his lover, began to cry. A 6 foot tall lion, crying in the arms of his mate.

Edit: Grammar & Spelling; Slight word change to add flavour.
Edit 2: Chapter 2 added. More formatting and grammar correction.

We press play, don't press pause.
Progress, march on.
With the veil over our eyes,
we turn our back on the cause.
'Till the day that my uncles can be united by law,
when kids are walking 'round the hallway plagued by pain in their heart.
A world so hateful some would rather die than be who they are.
And a certificate on paper isn't gonna solve it all,
but it's a good place to start.
