Generalising isn't a good thing to do. Saying that no one else knows how to debate properly can easily be offensive to people. I think it'd be better to say that 'the majority of people probably don't know how to debate properly'. I'm not saying that I think I'm a brilliant debater because, well...I'm not. I'm 15, so I expect to be wrong in quite a few areas and I accept that.

But anyway, just something that I thought I should point out. I do agree that there should be an obvious visual distinction between debate topics and discussion topics. I think it would avoid there being any...misunderstandings, to put it simply. ^^

What I meant was people here on MLK, and debating as defined by the Dictionary for what debating is. If you look at proper procedure for what debating actually is, we here on MLK don't follow it, and therefore, we are not debating.

Which is why I think, Woeler, you are misunderstanding me again. I don't want MLK to have to follow the accepted debate protocol because we created our own debate topics. This is why I want us to create our own rules, for MLK. They will almost certainly be different that the definition of debating, but they will be hand-tailored for MLK.

Which is why I have to stress about the "answering questions to get asked" part. Yes, in real debates, diverting attention is a legitimate tactic. But on MLK, I don't think that's a good thing to use. I think when people ask questions here, they actually want answers.

That is a major thing in debating. If you drop it, you're not debating anymore because you're forcing people to do things. If you use the right tactic you'll force them to answer your question. People either debate in a reasonable way or they don't debate at all.

Maybe 'wrong' was the wrong word to use. I guess you could say I won't be as well informed as others in quite a few areas.

Isn't it already a given that anything in the world issues section is intended to be a debate topic?
