Are you a Scar sympathizer?

Are you a Scar sympathizer?

I've gotten many mixed views from TLK fans about this question. Some say yes, some say no. What do you say? I'm neutral.

No. He was and always will be a ruthless tyrant. Seriously. To kill your own brother is horrible. No amount of ill treatment by your parents should ever warrant you to kill your own brother. That to say that Scar was even mistreated by his parents. I mean he had such jealousy for Mufasa, not to mention Simba, that he would kill him?

I would say that he is a fascinating character but there is NOTHING that would make me sympathize with him. Look at Adolf Hitler whom Scar was based on. His mother died at an early age, he got rejected by an art school when it was his passion etc. We all know what happened next. Do you feel sympathy for that? I see Scar as a very complex character who was dealt a bad hand earlier in life. Instead of coping with it in a productive way, he chose to focus on his bitterness and pride in a (self) destructive way. Scar is definitely a psycholically complex villain in that there is more to him that the usual moustache twitching. What makes him scary (and fascinating) is that he is cognitive in his choices. Scar got dealt a bad hand earlier in his life. The difference between himself and others who got the shaft be it favoritism or whathaveyou is that Scar CHOSE to focus on the negative and use that as fuel to orchestrate his brother's assasination.

I don't sympathize with committing fratricide. I don't think anyone does here. One upping them, sure. I think we all do. LOL!
Death is a challenge. It tells us not to waste time… It tells us to tell each other right now that we love each other.

TheBlackCatCrossing basically stated what I was about to post.

I would feel sympathy for Scar seeing as he probably had a harse childhood even though there isn't an official canon source that details Mufasa and Scar's childhood. But, if you know how an absolute monarchy works, then, you know the second heir has little to no chance of assuming the throne unless his sibling dies without having an heir apparent. However, he blew any chance at being sympathetic by not doing anything constructive.

In summary, Scar had every right to be anger and bitter, but what you do with those emotions is what defines you. Unfortunately for Scar, it lead him down a dark path of no return.

No, I'm not a Scar sympathizer. He is one of my favorite TLK characters, but he was cruel at heart. He accomplished one murder to his brother and almost accomplished a second murder to his own nephew just so he can continue ruling like a dictator. The Pridelands became ruins in darkness with the lack of resources. He slashed his sister-in-law who was still queen. He betrayed his so called "friends" and even though his death was very cruel and scary, he deserved it from the actions he committed from the start.
