So by 1987, all the money spent on NASA during the 1958-1969 was payed back completely through the economical growth created by space age technology entering the civilian markets... Plus an additional 30%...

For all those who think that space research is a waste of money: WE NEED ANOTHER SPACE RACE.

It's never a waste of money. We just have wrong priorities, speaking of which, NASA get's 18 billion per year I believe. People are worrying that we shouldn't give that much money to NASA, and at first I agreed with that. I actually immediately changed that view when I found out that the US government throws 40 billion in an intellectual black hole of astronomical proportions. They should cut that budget first before they even dare touching Nasa's.
