I witnessed history in the making, and it was awesome. Masakazu Kusakabe Sensei has recently finished building one of his smokeless wood kilns in the courtyard of the art building on campus. It is the second kiln like that in the whole US. He designed the kilns and built them himself. The only other one in the US is at Harvard, so it is a great honor for him to fly in all the way from Japan to build this kiln for us. This morning was the lighting ceremony. Sensei talked to us about his kiln, showed us some things, and got the fire going before I had to scamper away for a midterm. After all of that, I went and joined the school's History Club, and it sounds like we'll be doing some cool stuff.
