Implying banning guns is just as evil as taking away the rights of millions of people (approx 10mil) and killing them just because of their ethnicity.

No, I'm not implying that. As I said before, I hate using cliches, but that's the exact problem: people today refuse to believe that they can, completely legally, replace a representative government with a dictatorship. It's not about comparing "Hitl3r to someone else", but "if this guy is willing to ignore the constitution for this, what else will he want to do?". It's the little steps I'm worried about, so that we won't wake up one morning and wonder what in the world had changed.

I am not comparing Obama to Hitler, because I am also certain that Obama won't do something as stupid as that, but at the same time, you have to drill it into your head: When Hitler was elected, and until WWII, he was the most popular head of Germany ever. If Hitler had died upon the onset of WWII, he would have been remembered as the guy who saved Germany from a global recession and not as a mental nutcase.

And another cliche: How many people in failed countries (for example, Cuba) like to say that during the revolution, they replaced a bad government with an even worse one?

So even if I have to use cliches and Godwin's law, I would rather do something silly like that than see history repeat itself.

So, what exactly makes you think Obama wants to ban guns? I don't recall him ever saying that. In fact:

Q: In 2008, you stated you wanted to keep AK-47s out of the hands of criminals.

OBAMA: We're a nation that believes in the Second Amendment, and I believe in the Second Amendment. We've got a long tradition of hunting and sportsmen and people who want to make sure they can protect themselves. My belief is that we have to enforce the laws we've already got, make sure that we're keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, those who are mentally ill. We've done a much better job in terms of background checks, but we've got more to do when it comes to enforcement. But weapons that were designed for soldiers in war theaters don't belong on our streets. Part of it is seeing if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced. But part of it is also looking at other sources of the violence. Because frankly, in my home town of Chicago, there's an awful lot of violence and they're not using AK-47s. They're using cheap hand guns.

I don't see anything in here about repealing the second amendment. Tightening regulations, yes. But saying that's unconstitutional is quite the exaggeration.

Even if it was: if slavery was written in the constitution, would you be against an amendment to repeal it, just because it's part of our heritage?

Just saying, there's a lot of room for interpretation here.

Hoookaaayyyy, how about something we can all agree on?

Home ownership of assault weapons is unnecessary.

Large arsenals of weapons are unnecessary.

Longer waiting periods while effective background checks are conducted are reasonable.

Incredibly weak gun laws such as those in Arizona which allow people to buy a dozen or more assault weapons every day and not ever account for the disposition of those guns are absurd.

Allowing concealed weapons on school grounds is absurd.

Requiring significant training prior to issuance of a concealed carry permit is reasonable, and strict regulation of where one can carry concealed weapons is reasonable.

We can make America safer while retaining Second Amendment rights. So don't allow the NRA, "Obama's stealing our guns" mentality, or "guns are the root of all evil" mentality to cloud your judgement. Ultimately, there is a compromise to be made here.

BREAKING NEWS: 27 People Dead, Mostly Children, at Connecticut School Shooting

Yahoo! wrote:More than two dozen people, mostly children, were shot and killed at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school this morning by a heavily armed man who was killed inside the building, federal and state sources tell ABC News.

"The shooter is deceased inside the building," Connecticut State Police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance said at a news conference. "The public is not in danger." Authorities said the school building is now secure.
Sources described the shooter as a 24-year-old man armed with four weapons and wearing a bullet-proof vest.
Authorities initially believed that there were two gunmen and were searching cars around the school. It is currently unclear whether there is still a suspect at large.
The massacre prompted the town of Newtown to lock down all its schools and draw SWAT teams to the school, authorities said today.

President Obama was briefed on the shooting by FBI Director Robert Mueller.
It's unclear how many people have been shot, but 27 people, mostly children, are dead, multiple federal and state sources tell ABC News. That number could rise, officials said.

It is the second worst mass shooting in U.S. history, exceeded only by the Virginia Tech shooting in 2007 when 32 were killed before the shooter turned the gun on himself. Today's carnage exceeds the 1999 Columbine High School shooting in which 13 died and 24 were injured.

The Newtown shooting comes three days after masked gunman Jacob Roberts opened fire in a busy Oregon mall, killing two before turning the gun on himself.

Today's shooting occurred at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, which includes 450 students in grades K-4. The town is located about 12 miles east of Danbury.

State Police received the first 911 call at 9:41 a.m. and immediately began sending emergency units from the western part of the state. Initial 911 calls stated that multiple students were trapped in a classroom, possibly with a gunman, according to a Connecticut State Police source.

Vance said that on-duty and off-duty officers swarmed to the school and quickly checked "every door, every crack, every crevice" in the building looking for the gunman and evacuating children.
A photo from the scene shows a line of distressed children being led out of the school.

Three patients have been taken to Danbury Hospital, which is also on lockdown, according to the hospital's Facebook page.

"Out of abundance of caution and not because of any direct threat Danbury Hospital is under lockdown," the statement said. "This allows us simply to focus on the important work at hand."

Newtown Public School District secretary of superintendent Kathy June said in a statement that the district's schools were locked down because of the report of a shooting. "The district is taking preventive measures by putting all schools in lockdown until we ensure the safety of all students and staff," she said.
State police sent SWAT team units to Newtown.

All public and private schools in the town were on lockdown.

"We have increased our police presence at all Danbury Public Schools due to the events in Newtown. Pray for the victims," Newtown Mayor Boughton tweeted.

State emergency management officials said ambulances and other units were also en route and staging near the school.

A message on the school district website says that all afternoon kindergarten is cancelled today and there will be no midday bus runs.

My heart goes out to the children who have been killed! My condolences goes out to the families of those children!

After this and the Portland, Oregon mall shooting earlier this week, I think there should be some gun control.
