my boy would like to know a few things about lionesses. how old are they when they start hunting?
and how old are male lions when they leave the pride they were born in?

Lionesses start hunting when they reach maturity in like 3 to 4 years.

Male lions reach maturity at about 3 years of age and that is usually when they leave the pride however by 4-5 years of age male lions can usurp an older male from another pride.
