Yes, lighting really effects. Look at the scene with Scar and Simba when Simba is off the edge of the cliff. The lighting of the fire makes it look somewhat as if Simba is bleeding. See my point? That also goes for Vitani's eye color and black ear rim.
well, that doesn't go for her ear rims cause those change in different cuts with the same lighting. plus they wouldn't be shaded THAT much.
The lionesses in the scene where Simba confronts Scar change their designs in practically every cut.

Here they have uncolored toes like Nala...

...and now they all have colored toes.

And now they all have ear rims!

Not to mention the fact that the Sarafina-like lioness helping Sarabi up in that first picture either vanishes or completely changes colors between that cut and the next.
it's like that in most storybooks too. you'll see the lionesses in the background and some or all are Sarafina clones, then when in the illustrations where they fight the hyenas they look more like Sarabi but with whiskers and no tail tufts!

and now we're only talking about the messed-up charries in the movies. Don't even get started 'bout the merchandise! I saw a ball with Nala in Simba's colors, with "Simba" above it :hmm: and those doormats with Kovu with a dark brown belly and muzzle....
Or should there be a new topic about that subject? :innocent:

Yeah, eyes change a lot due to lighting, even mine do a little xD but i think most of the design changes came completely out of the laziness of disney and the changing of artists when drawing one character :P

Yeah, my eyes do that too. They're technically blue-hazel (weird genetic defect), but in the summer they just look pure green. Although I do think that the whole eye color issue with Nala is explained pretty well by lighting changes.
have you guys ever noticed that, for example, Vitani has ear rims, no....she has not...suddenly those ear rims are back. Even her eye colour changes during the movie!
Did you guys notice more of these design changes?
I remember in TLK that during CYFTLT Simba and Nala are rolling down from a hill in the jungle, and they change colour for a few seconds....really weird!

oh, and I'm talking about the movies now, not about the books......because the books mess even more with designs, like giving Zira blue eyes and stuff :p
i remember reading one on lion king wiki that vitani had 3 designs that kept changing trough the movie. and also one of them was a mistake when they used her design as a cubby.

When Nuka enters the elephant graveyard his fur color change to grey and white? What? And his mane almost is purple and black not brown or black. It could be the inside. :3

The inconsistent character designs are one of the reasons why I give SP 3 out of 5 stars.
