Characters that remind you of Simba?

Characters that remind you of Simba?

Postby SlayerOfLight » September 27th, 2012, 5:29 pm

Just as the thread title says, are there characters from any movie, animation, cartoon, (etc) that remind you of TLK's Simba? If yes, tell me which one's please, and also why they remind you of Simba. But keep in mind that these are just personal opinions though.

These are all I can think off for now:

1. Kimba the white lion. He and Simba are both the king of beasts, show respect to all other animals, have female companions, try to be good rulers, And not to forget, both of them were raised with other animals away from their parents. There are alot more similarities which I can't be bothered to mention.

2. Aladar the Iguanodon from Disney's Dinosaur. He may not be a lion, but he obtains good leadership qualities (just like Simba) to rule a herd of Dinosaurs. He also didn't get raised by his own parents, but a bunch of monkeys who accepted Aladar and raised him as one of them. Just like Simba who was determined to save his kingdom and pride from Scar, Aladar was determined to save the dinosaur herd from being lead to their doom by Kron, who like Scar from TLK, only cared about himself and being the selfish leader of the herd.

3. Jack Shephard from the 'Lost' TV show. Out of the persons I mentioned above who have backgrounds that are more related to Simba's life, Jack Shephard however, matches closest to Simba when it comes to personalities. Both he and Simba are stubborn, somewhat arrogant, trying to be a good leader, And unsure about how to deal with certain situations such as Simba distrusting Kovu in the beginning, and even exciling him temporary untill Kovu proved Simba he deserves to join his pride, and Jack Shephard showing a great rivaly and distrust to John Locke throughout most of the Lost seasons, except the final season where Jack Shephard admits John Locke was right.

Balto--Both lost family members at a young age (Mufasa for Simba, Aniu the white wolf for Balto), they both have similar eyes, both are heroes, Both have beautiful love interests that help them in some way and both have zany friends.

Bambi. Sort of. Both lost a parent at a young age and under traumatic circumstances, both became kings/princes in the end etc.
Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games trilogy reminds me of Adult Simba (but also Mulan lol). She and Simba both had very hard pasts, both are survivors who have fought for their lives, and they're very mature and serious when they are older. They're protective of the ones they love (Katniss with Prim and Simba with Kiara).
This is kind of weird but...

Goku: Simba and Goku's voices sound very similar, and their personality, very friendly but if you mess with his friends he can become very angry and protective, same thing occurs with his family, too.

When Scar throws the ashes in Simba's face in the ending battle Simba sounds just like Goku in Dragonball Z Budokai when he gets hit, I'm not sure how many of you would know what that sounds like but, hey...

All in all, Simba just reminds me of Goku, even when Simba was a cub he acted kind of like kid Goku, too.

^Not only that. They fell in love with their female childhood friends, and their parent teaches them about how their society operates before they get killed. Finally, both of their respective movies end with the birth of their child(ren). TLK really took heavy inspiration from Bambi, doesn't it?

Some of my choices are:

Hamlet - An obvious choice. Both are princes whose fathers get murdered by their envious uncles. They are both invoked to do what their father's spirit commands them to.

Littlefoot from The Land Before Time - Both lose a parent at an early age. Both are guided by their dead parent who appear as a ghost in the form of a cloud. Both Littlefoot and Simba defeat their parent's killer, Sharptooth and Scar. I think I remember Littlefoot seeing his dead mother in a pool of body like Simba did seeing his father in a pool. Not to mention, TLBT mentions the phrase, "Circle of Life".

Hercules from Disney's Hercules - Both Simba and Hercules are of royalty (Zeus is the King of the Gods), and have an envious uncle (Hades/Scar) who have evil minions that fail to destroy the princes. Later in the movie, their uncles defeat their fathers by taking over the kingdom, and they eventually defeat their uncles. Both characters have a laid-back personality. Finally, their friends/allies (Timon & Pumbaa/Phil and Pegasus) don't approve of their romance with Nala/Meg(ara).

Moses - Both Moses and Simba are raised in royalty, and become self-exiled after being accused of a murder. During their self-imposed banishments, they grow into maturity, and fall in love. They are told by a spirit (God/Mufasa) to return back to their homeland, in which they do. There, they liberate their people from an evil king, Scar/Pharoah.

Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings - Both Simba and Aragorn are princes whose father get killed when they are young and helpless. During their adult years, they both battle an evil ruler (Scar/Sauron) to become the rightful king of their kingdom, while battling with their own self-doubt (well, at least in the movies).

I would also like to add that both Katniss and Simba's fathers were killed when they were children. Her father was killed in a mining explosion and Simba's father was murdered by Scar. As they grew older, they've had to deal with their losses.

Some more choices:

Sundiata Keita - Unlike the my other choices, he, along with Moses, were real people. He was a prince given a prophesy that he will rule the kingdom. He is betrayed by a family member who wanted the throne, and was ran out of his kingdom into exile. During the exile, Sundiata grew into a strong adult, and his people sent out for his help, much like the lionesses assumingly sent out Nala to find help. Both Sundiata and Simba returned to their native kingdom, defeat an evil king, and become the new ruler; in Sundiata's case, he became the first in a long line of emperors.

Prince Malcolm in Macbeth - Both Simba and Malcolm are the sons of a king, and the heir to the throne. After their father is murdered, they flee from the kingdom when suspected of murder. Malcolm's father's murderer, Macbeth, inherits the throne, and rules wickedly much like Scar. At the end, Malcolm becomes the new king after the usurper is defeated, much like Simba.

Sparrow (the hero of the game Fable II) reminds me quite a bit of Simba. As a young child he (or she) loses his closest family member (and survives an attempt on his own life) at the hands of a phsyically unremarkable, but cunning and power hungry adversary who initally seemed trustworthy. He then spends the rest of his childhood living in a carefree gypsy camp while still being haunted by his past. Once he reaches adulthood, he rises to fulfill his destiny which culminates in facing his sister's killer and ultimately becoming king.
Come death. Come suffering. I will not live in fear. In this fleeting life where time escapes us, the path of least resistance is a slow quiet death. I'd rather burn out than fade away.
