I think that would lend to the Tiger side of the debate. A lone lion cut off from it's pride would be at a much bigger disadvantage than a lone tiger who'se been that way his whole life.

I would never want to see these animals tear each other up on any circumstances, but I'd say the tiger will win more often. Since lionesses are much smaller than male lions and both genders of tigers, they're likely to lose any lone fight (But there's strength in sisters ;D). A male lion versus a female tiger would be relatively even, although the lady tiger may have more of an advantage with longer teeth, more agility, more heat tolerance, and longer claws. But the male's mane might deflect any attacks to the throat, which is where she would likely try to deliver a crushing blow. However, a man isn't an iron shield, it's fur. So her teeth could likely pierce through it.

Same with a male tiger, although there's bigger than the females so more of an advantage. So basically, if a male lion and a male/female tiger were placed in a ring, my bet would be on the tiger.

However, if one of them got the element of surprise the tables could be flipped entirely... it all depends on the circumstances and environment really.
