I think the original thought was for people to be able to pick a movie they wanted to rate rather than be given one. But initially the point was also to write a short review about the film you chose and whether you'd recommend it to others, which no one seems to be doing anymore. Not sure which system works better to be honest.

Uh...The Devil Wears Prada - 8/10 - Meryl Streep was great in the movie, I might want to add.

The old way wasn't working anymore since MLK posters weren't giving a rating to a specific movie in response to the previous poster's movie choice because they never seen them. The new way, "any [movie genre]", gives us a more wider option since MLK posters have at least seen one movie in the genre. Sure, we can go back to the old way; I don't care.
