Was Scar serious?
I have a feeling that the only thing he would have done was made this face ---> :sob:

But I can envision Scar eventually realizing that he needs to leave, but it probably w\ould have been too late to survive.
^ I actually disagree, I honestly think Scar would've died rather than give up what he killed for. He was such a megalomaniac and so set on getting what he wanted, King of the Pridelands, that it wouldn't have mattered if it was a phyrric victory. Azerane's got a point, he probably would've been killed before starving/dehydrating, but I do think he would have died before ever leaving.

I think that the main goal of Scar was to survive, and I think he was serious because I also think to be king drove him crazy

LOL when scar said: ''so be it'' after Sarabi told him that they must leave pride rock, means he also sentanced himself to death because there won't be any food for him as well XD but I think Scar would rather die then leaving pride rock, even if he'd die under starvation because he is just too stubborn and completely out of his mind.

After watching TLK again just a few days ago and doing a little in-depth view of Scar in his scenes,
I'm tempted to say that Scar is not necessarily serious. I especially had the feeling after he gained control of Pride Rock.

But one thing is for sure to me now, he told the hyenas that they would "never go hungry again" in the "Be Prepared" song. Sure, his plan of killing Mufasa worked and did pan out. But telling the hyenas not going hungry again didn't as was seen near the end in the scene where Shenzi, Ed, and Banzai question Scar, in the throne, about it.

So far overall, I think he is too proud of himself and his actions to truly keep a promise to others. Even to those who were once his allies. Then again, I believe this does show his villain colors :furious4:.

I'm pretty sure he meant it. Scar is a pretty selfish lion who would rather sacrifice others than himself.

I believe he would allow the weak lionesses who couldn't live long without food die, but if it meant his own death he would reject it.

Scar was completely serious. If the pride will leave, it will mean that the lionesses are undermining Scar's authority, and therefore, that he's a bad, weak king. But if he can force them to stay, even if it is suicide (remember that Scar is not the most mentally sound lion around), it will mean that he still has power over the pride, and that he is still king.

So for Scar, it's not a matter of life or death, but a matter of keeping the power that he worked so long and hard to get. He will not allow it to slip away just because of a silly thing like a very serious drought.

I don't doubt that he was being serious, at the time.

But, after a few days of having neither food nor water, he might be convinced otherwise. Having power is quite meaningless when compared to the needs of survival.

I really do think that the rationale side of Scar died with Mufasa in that stampede. I think that Scar was much more concerned about staying not only king, but king of the Pride Lands - the lands that Mufasa ruled before him, no matter what.

When Sarabi complained to Scar, the impression I got is that while Scar was careless, he still listened to her when she mentioned that there was no food. It's like he knows, but he also knows that the hyenas won't allow him to fix the solution properly - drive them out. But as as soon as Sarabi mentioned that they need to leave Pride Rock, that's it - no more.

It's like Scar imposed two new laws: 1. You will never mention Mufasa or even say his name. 2. The Pride will never leave Pride Rock.

Yes, but clearly, he wasn't starving when he said that. True starvation can do strange things to a mind.

The pride would either leave, or resort to cannibalism. If they stayed, he, along with a few hyenas would probably be the last ones standing. I assume that's why he didn't care.
