3DS opinions? (preferably from people who played/own one)

I thought it was actually pretty awesome myself, you just have to get used to the 3D. Any problems are easily fixed by just following the manual. If it doesn't work, your eyes are probably the problem, in which case just take off the 3D, you don't need it. Lots of fun features before I even put a game in, and it's just fun in general. Battery life is terrible though, so just keep it in the charger when you're not playing it is my suggestion.

Not as good as it's hyped up to be but not horrible either.

From someone who has never owned or used one:

Why is Nintendo even trying to do this? It seems quite stupid to me, to experiment with new technology on a handheld. Even the consoles with actual power struggle to render at 1920x1080, much less doubling that resolution for the 3D effect.

You can keep your 3DS. I'd rather have a watt-guzzling Nvidia 3D vision setup.

Almost stopped reading as soon as you said you didn't have one, it's always those people who fail to see the point of the 3DS. Yes I have an actual 3D set up for console gaming which does 3D A LOT better. But the 3D is NOT the selling point of the 3DS, it is a step up from the standard DS due to the extra processing power. I mean I played all through Kingdom Hearts 3D with the 3D off and you could have fooled me for the PS2 versions; it looked great and played even better with extra control methods like touchscreens, dual screens, AR cameras an so forth.

It's that which is the point; the 3D IS a gimmick I will give you that but 3D in general is a gimmick so it's barely something you can fault the 3DS for.

^ Which is exactly why I don't understand what all the hype was about. :P

Congrats, Nintendo. You've managed to match the performance of a computer that originally cost $300, 11 years ago, with a $180 handheld today.

Considering that the fat PS2 weighs just over 8lbs, and the 3DS weighs 8.1 ounces, we'll say that the 3DS has the same power, with 1/16th of the space. Following Moore's law, which states that the number of transistors on chips in integrated circuits doubles every two years, this should have been possible back in 2008. However, we also have to include the additional weight (and cost) from the two screens, and the built-in controls.

I'd say Nintendo is still slightly lacking behind in terms of hardware. My basic $500 laptop is leaps and bounds ahead of the 3DS, with 320x the storage space, 12x the memory, 3.9x the maximum possible resolution, 0.7x the battery life and an undefined amount more of CPU and GPU power, because Nintendo does not publish enough information readily available on the internet.

I can say, however, that the PICA200 in the 3DS is probably even behind Sandy Bridge's mind-blowingly sucky integrated graphics.

Omg Regulus why do you even care so much like what person actually thinks that much into something likes this that seriously. Honestly, you are seriously over thinking this.

I'm not going to get into the weight of the console and how we should have been able to make these things so many years ago and say yes I have a 3DS and although it's out a little later than it should have been it's out now and it's a great console.

There's a lot more space compared to normal DS. The graphics look better, the 3D is nice, you have internet access and Street Pass and Nintendo Video and all that jazz.
There aren't really many games available that i'm interested in but that doesn't matter.

I played KH 3D in 3D for pretty much the whole thing, but near the end I had to take it off because my eyes were starting to hurt [i have a bit lazy eye which doesn't help] but yeah the graphics from the games i've played so far are brilliant. The graphics don't make the game, but when they're crystal clear and beautiful you have to comment on them.

Honestly I couldn't care less about what looks better or how much better some randomers laptop is in comparison with the little machine because it doesn't matter as long as you have fun with it really... It's a games console if it's fun to play then play it what else really matters.

I know this is coming from a teen that doesn't really know or care about all of this rubbish you're getting into but honestly it's such a mundane subject to pick at in such depth really. Or at least it seems stupid.
I sound like one of those really annoying people at the moment but i honestly can't even

If anything, I'm actually most likely underanalyzing the situation, as actual performance is almost always different from the theoretical performance.

I wish I could tell you why I care about such things, but I can't. All I can say is that when I think about its technical specifications, I don't think it would be difficult to make it a little more beefier and efficient. How can you not want to maximize efficiency? :awe:

I personally do not care about maximizing efficiency because it works well enough for me and i don't work for nintendo and never will. It's up to them to make it better.

It's not like me caring about what could make the 3DS better is going to have any effect at all on what happens with the 3DS because chances are no-one that could actually improve the console is going to hear or care about what I have to say.

And as I said it works fine to me without degrading it and wishing it was better, because then it wouldn't be fun. Then all i'd be thinking about when i was playing games would be 'Sigh... This isn't fun because this console could have been a bit better...'

It doesn't matter what we make because we'd always be trying to make it better or picking holes in it or whatever anyway

i've lost track of what ever point i was trying to make uwu
