I agree with everything else you said, but 'dealing with it' only encourages bullies to continue. People must learn to stand up for themselves, not 'deal with it'. Action must be taken against this to limit it, whether it's standing up for yourself, telling your teacher (which never seems to work since they don't care about the matter enough) or donating that money to anti-bullying organizations instead to victims of bullying themselves. (I'd say end it but I'm not that optimistic. Certain people will simply remain idiots.)

I guess your right, but it is really hard to stand up for yourself, even if they are alot stronger than you. But I agree with what you said, you have to take action to get the problem solved, right?

Yep, I agree that it's hard. Ignoring them might get them to stop, but they'll learn absolutely nothing from that, so taking action is much better IMO.

A general idea seems to be that it is a nice gesture but perhaps not really the smartest use of that kind of money. Upon further thought; I suppose the guy didn't know he would raise that much money, I mean maybe he just thought it would like a couple of thousands for a holiday or something...

But half a mili, whichever way you look at is a lot of money for this scenario. I made a thread a while back which was called something like "is there such thing as a selfless act?" and IMO this is an example case to use against that question. If people were donating that money because they cared then maybe things like the Japan relief fund or actual charities would be getting a lot more donations. Imagine what cancer research could do with that kind of money being donated... If they were thinking selflessly then they would have thought this. But for a bus aid, I mean that sounds a little like bandwagon hopping for self gratification to me...

I guess that maybe it was a lot of small donations rather than one massive one but still... It bugs me a little that jut because this was caught on film that it merits this kind of reaction; I mean, yes Kops this kind of stuff happens a lot. you put any rotten kids on a bus, they are going to harass whoever looks the most helpless... Sick yeah, but it happens and it's not a $500,000 problem. I mean name calling can be ignored, poverty and such can not, yet people seem to do a good job of it anyway.

I think passing a bunch of laws does nothing. There was a time where you could stand up to a bully: it's called kicking their asses. But in this PC society, it is the bully that gets protected status. I am still pissed off about the Phoebe Prince debacle. I really think kids/tweens/preteens are sociopaths. No, please don't tell me that they are kids and that they are not 'responsible'. Please. They were bullying her WITH INTENT and they knew what they were doing. The father of one of the boys apologized to her. I have nothing but respect for him.

A 60-something year old woman was supposed to beat up a gang of pre-teens? o_O Laws to curb bullying and punish those that engage in it are *absolutely* necessary and this incident is a fantastic reason why. They DO know what they're doing, and legally supported consequences need to be instituted for when it gets out of hand.

I think I'd feel differently about the huge payout the bus aide is getting if I had a better sense of what she's doing with it and feel that it's being used for something worthwhile. I just can't tell at this point, though. Makes me raise an eyebrow

No seriously this is one of the most stupid things I've seen. Bullying is everywhere. Life isn't rainbows and unicorns, people need to understand that. Money doesn't repair issues like this. The person who started this is just as hopeless as the person who started that whole kony2012 thing. What do they want, be a hero? Win the Nobel peace prize? How long will it take until the whole world finally sees that this is human nature. Yes, you too human! You have DNA in your system that originally programmed you to kill everyone that stands in your way, so don't act like life is so beautiful, because we are all just animals.

Now lets move on from the undeniable ugly truth about mankind.
Is this behavior ok? no! Probably one, two or three people started this and the rest followed. Not all of those children are truly like that, they just wanna be part of the group, aka peer pressure. I don't know how old this woman is but she seems pretty old to me. The retirement age in Greece is 54, so what the hell is going on here? I estimate her being past 54 years old so I really don't see why she doesn't stop. There is also the option to GET ANOTHER JOB. You must have screwed up pretty badly if you couldn't have found another job in all those years. Also there are more companies driving buses.

LIFE ISN'T FAIR. If you really wanna help then care for the millions of people starving in Africa, the millions of people oppressed in North-Korea or the unjustifiable political systems in the Middle-East. Not this crap.

The fact that people actually give money to this instead of Africa or other poor countries makes me realize again how utterly stupid mankind can be.

There are times when the only thing a bully understands is a punch in the face. If she was 50 years younger then yes, I would encourage her to fight back. At her age, no.

Violence doesn't solve anything, so punching someone isn't going to help. That action might actually get the victim in more trouble than the bully.

That's why I said in this PC society we live in, you cannot protect yourself. Sometimes you have to fight back because that is the only thing bullies understand. You can't do that these days because, as you said, you will get in trouble.

I don't think violence solves anything in this situation... or really any situation. If you punch those kids, even if you're a kid, you're creating a much, much bigger problem, for yourself and for the other kids.
