Disney never officially released a fourth LK. The story ends with SP.

Although, as I said, I do think the filmmakers intended for it to be permanent.

I think the writers intended Kovu to get a permanent scar on his face to add to the symbolism and underline the fact that although he strongly resembles Scar in his appearence, Kovu does not mirror his personality.

I always saw Kovu's scar as a permeant mark. As a viewer, I see that Zira does hit Kovu's eye very hard with more pressure so of course that did hurt him a lot. Unlike Simba's situation in the Elephant Graveyard, Zira was never in any rush when she was just ready to let her anger out at her son for his "mistakes" while Simba and Nala were being chased by the hyenas and Simba just had to do something quickly to slow them down. I'm not really too sure on this, but the scratch that Simba gave Shenzi probably didn't hurt as much as since it was right on her cheek. Let's face it. Zira could've done much more injury towards Kovu's eyeball and damaging around the eye hurts more than just a scratch on the cheek and quickly healing. Kovu's scar is just to symbolize his similar appearance like Scar, but not his actual personality because he's so different.

I think its a scar. I mean all all realism it would only be temporary, but Disney would have meant for it to be a scar simply for the likeness to... well, Scar xD

I never did like that scene, but i guess with all the symbolism it is a "scar" since the first villian also has a scar lol
