Lion King Card Collector
welcome! I used to have many cards but they were one of the things that got lost over the years, probably damaged in one of the floodings in my parents' basement. someday I will hopefully get some more.
I can relate. I lost many items to mold due to overly wet basement and numerous flooding incidents these past years. Fortunately the cards were all in the card protector pages in binders. You won't have too much problem getting replacements if you ever care to. There were zillions of the Skybox cards made and they are not expensive at all on Ebay these days.

Cards... I never realized there were cards. Now that I've seen them I expected like, Pokemon style trading cards. So are they really worth anything?

Most of the Lion King cards made have very little or essentially no value. There are a few smaller sets and individual cards that have some value, but those are mostly the ones made in very limited numbers or in some cases only one of each was made (ie.sketch cards).

A few individual gaming type cards have been made, but in game sets that use multiple Disney characters. I know of them appearing in three different games, two which are very recent, but have not completed getting them all (just the Lion King subject cards) yet.

Heres a example of a Simba card from the 'Kingdom Hearts' collectible game.

Oh wow, I remember these! I definitely had a few.

Skybox made a lot of cards back in the 90's, usually entertainment or basketball. Think they went belly up years ago.

I guess that is Simba channeling his Scar genes.

Yes, Skybox appears to have been bought out. But I am not sure the actual factory closed or just chnaged management. This from wiki:

SkyBox International Inc. was an American trading card manufacturing company based in Durham, North Carolina. A subsidiary of Vector Group, it was originally formed as Impel Marketing in 1989. In 1990, the company was renamed SkyBox International. For the next five years, they produced trading cards for the National Football League and National Basketball Association.

Non-sports

SkyBox also produced many licensed non-sports trading cards, including sets for Disney, Star Trek and Marvel Comics. The Lion King cards for Disney were among the most successful card sets ever produced.

Other series were created under a master license for DC Comics. This began with Cosmic Cards (1991) and Cosmic Teams (1993), followed by Milestone: The Dakota Universe (1993) and sets that included Superman, Batman, Sandman and Vertigo.[1]

During the 1990s, Skybox produced at least one trading card set per month. In 1995, SkyBox was acquired by Fleer, a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment Group at the time. Fleer continued to produce sets under the SkyBox brand. NBA Hoops and other NBA cards were card collector favorites. In 2005, following Fleer's bankruptcy proceedings, the Fleer brand name was acquired by Upper Deck.

Seems like you can still get sealed boxes for $10.

Hi all and thanks for the welcome.

Yes, most cards are still very inexpensive. Actually cheaper then when they first came out. Like Wrightfan said, you can still get an unopened box (36 packs) of series I or II cards in the $10 range on Ebay (I bought several of these boxes for $36 each back in 1995/96). Something else to consider is watching for people selling their collections in binders on Ebay. If you are patient you can find all the series I & II base set cards and some of the chase cards in the $25 range. (That is both base sets and a binder for $25ish). The base set of series I was 90 cards and series II was 80 cards. Each set also had 16 chase cards and later 5 activity/coloring chase cards added, for a total of 21 chase cards in each set. Nearly all the chase can be had in $1 range, except the lenticulars (2 in each set) which can run $5 each. There are also quite a few promo cards, which I will hopefully eventually show in the Card Collecting thread, as well as the many foriegn issued sets and promos. There were two different binders issued for the cards, one mainly green and one mainly blue, with images of the characters of course. The one to watch for is the blue binder some of which included a special set of 9 cards, that only came with the binder. But many of those sold do not include the cards, so you have to read the description well. I will eventually show picks of the binders/cards in the card Collecting thread also.
