"What if I don`t wanna be queen?"

"What if I don`t wanna be queen?"

Postby PrincessKiara » March 23rd, 2012, 11:52 pm

As a cub, Kiara is clearly reluctant to accept her destiny and role in the Pride - that she will become queen and rule the Pridelands one day. Unlike Cub Simba, who thought becoming king would mean to get his way all the time, Cub Kiara seems to have a better understanding of what it means, the responsibility that will be placed on her shoulders. In my opinion, at least, Kiara seems to doubt that she has what it takes to make a good leader, and she feels she loses her own identity in order to bend to the law and the will of the pride.

Anyway, my reason for making this topic is this: In SP, when she`s an adult, the topic of Kiara becoming queen is not addressed again, not mentioned, not once. That really bothers me, especially as when Kiara is a young adult, it makes more sense than ever for Simba to start preparing her properly for the day when he`ll no longer rule, and Kiara has to take over.

So, what are your thoughts? As she got older, do you think Kiara felt more at ease with becoming queen, did she feel good about it, was she looking forward to it? Or was she dreading it, feeling like her duty was a weight on her shoulders, holding her back, preventing her from fully living her life?

SP has a plot hole? What the heck?

I suppose the idea is that throughout her journey she figures out who she is and realizes her place in the pride. That's just what I'm inferring; it's poor script writing to not tie that off.

^I don't think it is a plot hole or just poor screenwriting. A plot hole is just an inconsistency in a storyline, and just because her final feelings towards the throne weren't expressed doesn't make the storyline inconsistent in any way. It's just left unanswered.

Now, this is funny. I made a similiar topic like this: If Kiara doesn't want to be queen, who will be Simba's heir?. Back then, I assumed she still doesn't want to be queen since it was never mentioned again if she wanted to. Now, I think she is ready to assume the throne after showing leadership qualities such as wisdom during the Pridelander-Outsider battle.

You see the only reason why cub Kiara said she doesn't want the throne is because she is tried of being treated like a princess. Or in other words, she hates being treated like a baby. So, in her cub mind, if people are pampering her at a young age, she assumes they will continue to this when she becomes queen, and she doesn't want that. But, after showing leadership and wisdom in ending the battle, and proudly watching up Pride Rock like any monarch of Pride Rock does, it implies to me that she is confident to take Simba's place.

I think it would have been better if they had clearly tied that off, seeing as they made abundantly clear she doesn't want to be queen in the start. She has a clear epiphany about uniting the two prides, but not about being queen.

I kind of like that open-end. Selfishly/sarcastically because it gives a reset button built into SP if she doesn't :P But non-sarcastically and in all honesty, I like that the film doesn't attempt to "redo" Simba and respected the original hero character's achievement/story by not entirely duplicating it/auto-applying it to the next installment.

I also think that, with the basis of SP coming from Romeo and Juliet, there was no point in having Kiara state whether or not she will become the queen. While this being a Disney movie, Kiara and Kovu can't die (although that didn't stop the death of Mufasa), the real ending is not if they live happily ever after and become the next royalty (although it is heavily implied) but the real ending is in the unification of the prides. Or as Mufasa puts it, the ending is when he finally announces that "we are one".

While I still keep my opinion on the question of whether Kiara wants to become queen, I changed my mind about whether the writers should have concluded Kiara's character arc. They should have, and it is a little poor screenwriting on their part.

To me she didn't really look interested in becomming ''queen'' even as an adult. It looked like she cared more about her and Kovu's little romance.

well at first when kiara was young she didn´t really want to be queen but as she got older simba never pushed into making her become a queen but as the movie went on she started seeing things go down between her pride and kovus pride and when her and kovu started falling in love the beef between her dads pride and kovus pride went to far and she really took being queen easily stopping her dad and kovus mom from fighting but in the end she ended up bringing the two prides together
