(Oops...I'm so sorry, I didn't realize this thread was in the Movies/TV forum! The Eyre Affair is a book, so if any mods feel this post should be deleted or moved, by all means do so.)

Acheron Hades, from Jasper Fforde's The Eyre Affair. You really need to read the book to get a feel for this man, but to make a long story short, he can read and control people's minds, can't be hurt by bullets, doesn't register on photographs or film, hear his own name spoken a hundred yard away (even if it is only whispered), and commits acts of murder, kidnapping theft merely for the thrill of it. He's essentially an evil genius with supernatural abilities.

Midway through the book, Acheron kidnaps a man named Mycroft*, who has just invented a machine that acts as a gateway between the real world and the world of fiction. Acheron plans to use this device to enter one of Charles Dickens' books and murder one of the characters, permanently erasing him from all copies of the book. Mycroft is informed that if he doesn't help Acheron carry out his plans, Mycroft's wife will be killed. As torturous as it is for him, Mycroft does Acheron's bidding, and the following exchange occurs as Mycroft activates the machine (Mycroft's line is the first):
"May God forgive me --"
"I forgive you," replied Acheron. "It's the closest you'll get!"

Another great line from earlier in the same scene:
"Don't ever call me mad, Mycroft. I'm not mad, I'm just...well, differently moraled, that's all."

*he does have a connection to the Sherlock Holmes books...but that's all I'm going to say about that. ; )

Evil is evil. Lesser, greater, middling, makes no difference. The degree is arbitrary. The definition’s blurred. If I am to choose between one evil and another, I rather not choose at all. – Geralt of Rivia
